A second before the elevator doors closed, Hendrix managed to catch up. He had a smile on his face. He seemed to be gloating.
I rolled my eyes at him and didn't speak to him.
As soon as we arrived back at the basement carpark, I strolled out without hesitating and walked over to the car. I picked up Aurellia in my arms and got into the car.
"Mommy, what did you leave behind?" Aurellia asked with her cute, puppy eyes.
I felt like crying but had no tears to shed. Did my dignity count?
"Nothing." I didn't want to think about how that sales assistant looked at me. I quickly changed the topic. "Let's go home. I'm exhausted. We can talk later, ok?"
"Okay!" Aurelia moved out of my embrace and sat down obediently. She imitated Evan and said, "Mr. Clark, let's go!"
After that, Hendrix slowly got into the car. He sat down and pouted at Aurellia as if to say, "Did you forget about your own father?"
Aurellia stuck out her tongue and hid behind Anne, pretending not to notice him staring at her.
How I wished that I was in the same car as Aaron right now. At least he could call Hendrix out on his vengeful behaviour!
Before, he simply allowed Hendrix to think that he was the Reid family's son- in- law and simply wanted to take advantage of him. But now, everything has turned upside down. I was the one who suffered no matter how you look at it.
No way, I had to find a way to teach him a lesson. I must get rid of his delusions about being a "parasite"!
I was so wrapped up in thinking of possible solutions, I didn't realize we had already reached home.
Just as we passed through the gate, I noticed that there were a few trucks in the yard. There were some large items on the back of these trucks.
After playing around for a while, Anne came forward and suggested, "Aurelia, I know you're a very well-behaved girl. I haven't seen you in such a long time. Do you want to sleep with me tonight?"
Aurelia suddenly sat up from the bed and thought about this. However, she added her own twist to the idea, "Okay, we can all sleep together!"
Anne didn't know how to respond, so she simply sat by the bed. She tried to persuade her, "Aurelia, you've grown-up now. You have to learn to sleep by yourself. You can't stick to your mommy and daddy all the time, okay?"
Aurelia shook her head, "But the other kids at school can sleep with their parents. I want that too. I like to be with mommy and daddy. I don't want to sleep alone..."
Children were very delicate beings, they could get hurt easily, so you have to be careful with your words around them. As Aurellia spoke, her eyes started to get watery. With her head down, she sobbed softly.
I couldn't bear to see her cry, so I stepped forward and pulled her into my embrace. "Okay, okay, you can stay here. You and I will sleep together. You're still young. You can sleep on your own when you've a little older. Sweetie, don't cry..."
