In a foreign country, he had spared no effort to search for my whereabouts, take care of his parents, and take care of the company all at the same time. I didn't know how long he would sleep every day. His hardships were beyond any ordinary person's imagination.
Hearing me say that, Aaron's eyes filled with tears as his gaze turned soft and tender. He was a man of steel, yet he barely managed to hold back his tears.
Worried that things would get too emotional, I quickly changed the subject. "Tell me. You're bad with girls. How did you woo Emma?"
Before going abroad, Emma had placed all of her focus on her career. She no longer held any hope for her relationship with Aaron. Once a woman focused on her career, there would be no room for men.
Serene was the best example of this.
Aaron scratched his head as though he was still the handsome, young, and bright man from before. He said hesitantly, "I didn't chase after her. After you had the accident, I searched the entire world for you and refused to stop for even a moment. Finally, I became tired and fell unconscious for three whole days. During that time, Emma supported the Reid family all by herself. Sometimes, she doesn't act like a woman at all."
The last part was to make fun of Emma, but his face looked happy.
"Sometime later, I searched several small islands and knew that any hope of finding you was practically impossible. I felt like I had lost my soul. When I returned home and saw Emma accompanying Aurelia in the living room, I was shocked, and a strong desire then rushed into my heart. I wanted to be a real husband to her, living the most mundane of life, and give her a home."
As Aaron spoke, the smile on his face grew deeper and deeper. It was obvious that he was very happy after experiencing all of that.
Thinking about that, I smiled and joked, "So you confessed your love for her?"
Although the Reids treated me like their own, Charles was a man who adhered to rules and principles. He knew that Eddison was a tyrant, so he definitely wouldn't choose to retire and go abroad to enjoy his life as though nothing had happened.
"Eddison is a man from a different time."
Aaron leaned back calmly on the sofa, his long fingers tapping on the armrest carelessly.
"Do you know what the phrase 'a tall tree catches wind' means? Eddison had done so many things behind his back to gain a promotion. One reason was to increase momentum, and the other was to suppress any hostile forces. He achieved both of these goals. But unfortunately, it attracted the attention of someone else. There are always newbies who would dare to challenge authority. Eddison hasn't come back since he was called away."
