The truth would come to light.
We freshened ourselves up and went out again to look for Trent.
The living room was empty; Trent nowhere to be found.
I grabbed a maid and asked, "Where is your master?"
The maid lowered her head in respect. "He is asleep."
Hendrix raised his gaze to glance upstairs. Although it had been years since Hendrix moved out and he rarely came back, he still remembered where Trent's room was.
We went upstairs and stood outside Trent's room. Hendrix raised his hand to knock on the door. "Uncle Trent?"
The corridor was quiet, and there was no answer.
Hendrix looked like he expected this. He smirked, yet his gaze seemed cold. He led me downstairs to the living room to wait.
After a long time, Trent walked downstairs slowly with Kennedy.
"Were you looking for me earlier?" Trent looked as if he had just woken up. "When you're old, you sleep more. If the servants hadn't told me, I would have thought it was a dream."
"Uncle Trent, you should rest earlier if you're tired." Hendrix said, his lips curled slightly upwards. Then, with an ingenuine smile, his gaze fell on Kennedy, who looked unhappy.
He had waited for more than 20 years. Another 10 hours was nothing to him.
Trent looked guilty as he forced a smile and said, "It doesn't matter. I have plenty of time."
As I was quietly observing Kennedy, I suddenly noticed how courteous she was. When her eyes met Hendrix's, her gaze automatically shifted towards me. When her eyes met mine, she would fake a smile to hide her embarrassment.
After Trent rejected his proposition for the third time, Hendrix paused for a long while. The atmosphere in the hall tensed. "Uncle Trent, I came to Ucrebury to ask you something," Hendrix stated quietly.
A trace of panic flashed across Trent's eyes. After a while, he asked nonchalantly, "What's the matter?"
Hendrix took out a photo of Johannes from his pocket and slapped it on the tea table between the couches.
Trent lowered his head and looked at the picture. With just a glance, his face darkened.
Taking no notice of the change in atmosphere, Kennedy impatiently reached out to pick the photo up before looking at it carefully. Her face then turned pale and panic- stricken. Finally, she stuttered, "This... is impossible. How did you..."
