I was not far from the door, but I was miles away from the stage, and Aaron's voice was not restrained. Although it didn't reach the front, it caught the attention of several guests around us.
"Can you be quiet? I don't want to be treated like a joke here," Emma hissed and looked vulnerable.
It seemed that Fabian guessed it right. Aaron had chosen to arrive at the same time as we did purposely, so as to take advantage of the feud between both families in order to distract the media. He also did it so that I did not have to respond to some gossipy questions, like "What do you feel coming to your ex- husband's nowgirlfriend's party?"
What did I feel?
I had some thoughts.
The gossip magazines were not always just flocking towards hearsay. Serene and Hendrix were very well-matched. One was a daughter from a rich, prestigious family, and the other was a newly rising business tycoon. Each of them were captivating, whether in status or appearance. When I saw the affection in Serene's eyes, I even made up a play in my head. A blockbuster romance between two high-achievers, intertwined with business interests.
"Who says I'm not?" Aaron said in the face of the guests' confusion. He raised his eyebrows and sized up those who were looking at him with ill intent, and warned them in a stern voice, "Let me see who has discovered my motive. What great timing, I just so needed an excuse to stir up some trouble."
Aaron was notorious for his brutality, so the people around him started to feel anxious under his glare. After a while, they scattered away like rats, and the surroundings instantly became much more spacious.
As he sent all of them away, Aaron leaned closer to me and whispered, "Don't worry, Hendrix won't have eyes for her."
"Huh?" I was surprised at the trust Aaron had in Hendrix, and I joked. "You're quite confident in him, eh?"
Aaron changed the topic with a smirk instead of answering me. "What's wrong? Are you jealous already?"
"I don't know what's wrong with him. The last time he came to my company to confirm your law firm logo, he brought along a foreign girl with him. He should've at least found a person with a better track record. Her face has been published in scandals several times before. He changes women everyday like a frat boy, which is really pathetic, if you ask me," Emma ranted as she stared at Aaron's back moodily.
I followed her line of sight with the corner of my lips pulled up into a smile. Oh, Aaron. He handled others' problems with such talent, but he did not have any great ideas when it came to himself.
"Then what did you do next?" I pressed on.
Emma answered, "I went downstairs and bought a dozen or so condoms, and told him to use a few at a time. Told him to take more trips to the hospital when he had nothing to do. Even if he must have s*x, he should take care of himself, in case he can't get it up one day! I know that Aaron doesn't like me, but now I really know that it's not my fault. It's his eyes that are the problem!"
I couldn't help but laugh as I discreetly gave Emma a thumbs- up to praise her. "Emma, you totally killed those lines."
