My Pretty Sweetheart (Arianna) novel Chapter 1701

It was morning when we arrived in Mesville. Black vehicles were shuttling through the bustling streets.

I looked out of the window at the changing scene in front of me. I had no idea where I was now.

A second ago, I was still in the center of the city, with high-rise buildings all around me. Then, all of a sudden, we were taking a small path.

After more than an hour, I finally realized that we were deliberately moving in circles.

Did they think that I had a photographic memory?

I turned around and asked the woman next to me, "Where on earth are we going?"

The woman pursed her red lips, and her voice was still mysterious. "I'm taking you to your son, of course."

"But we've been moving in circles?"

"Miss Reid, or maybe I should address you as Mrs. Roberts instead? You know better than us how difficult Hendrix is. We have to get him off our trail, just in case." The woman said frankly and confidently.

"Am I not your target?" I frowned. I suddenly had a bad feeling.

The woman raised her hand and waved her index finger. "No, no, no. Not just you. You alone are not worth that much of our time and effort..."

Even though she didn't finish her sentence, I could roughly guess what she was trying to say.

Hendrix had crossed the border and had allowed the Roberts Group to reach their current position. He'd offended quite a few people. This matter would most likely have something to do with him.

After the woman finished speaking, her eyes, made more striking with her dark eyeliner, kept gazing at me as if she was searching for something.

Why did she think that I would be afraid?

I'd been with Hendrix for a long time, so I'd learned a thing or two about seeing through people.

Then she turned away and ignored me.

When the car passed the last crossroad, the woman ordered the driver, "Stop here. I want to go home."

After receiving the order, the driver adjusted the steering wheel and stepped on the accelerator. He quickly drove out of the city, passed through several farms, and finally reached an uninhabited area without street lights.

We were surrounded by boundless darkness, and the dark clouds blocked the moonlight. The night was like a wild beast with its fangs open, ready to pounce on us at any time.

The bad feeling I had at the beginning was getting even worse. These people had taken away both my child and me, so there was no reason for them to reveal their motives so easily.

Finally, the car drove out of the uninhabited area and slowed down.

It meant that we were not far from our destination.

Soon, the driver parked the car in front of an old castle.
