My Pretty Sweetheart (Arianna) novel Chapter 1503

I nodded. After hesitating a little, I asked, "Did Ian come to Jarold City with you? I haven't been able to get in touch with him. Did he change his phone number?"

He froze hearing Ian's name. He answered stiffly, "I am not sure. I haven't contacted him in a long time. Perhaps... he had gone to Mesville. After all, he is familiar with that place."

Something was wrong. I frowned. "Did you and Ian have a fight? What happened?"

He seemed dazed and shook his head in response. "No, we are fine. Don't overthink this. We haven't been in touch for such a long time now, how are you? Mom said that Anne had been ill for quite a while. How is she doing now?"

Something must be wrong!

Ian and Sawyer had taken care of Anne together for a long time. If she was merely a child of his friend, he might just ask casually. But Anne was different. Ian and Sawyer treated Anne like their own daughter. Why did he ask about her so casually? It didn't seem right!

I stared at him and answered, "Sawyer, I understand that whatever happens between you and Ian is between you two. But as a friend of Ian as well as your sister, I can't pretend nothing is wrong. What happened to you and Ian? Do you know what Anne had been diagnosed with? She almost died from acute leukemia! I have no idea what happened between you and Ian. I couldn't get through to both of you, neither through phone nor text. If you still think of me as a friend, no matter what had happened, tell me. I don't believe that you two will act this cold-hearted towards Anne, even when she was nearly on her deathbed."

He pursed his lips and glanced at me. "Are you looking down on me because of this?"

I shook my head immediately and disagreed, "No, every relationship in the world is pure. I don't look down on any relationships at all. Sawyer, I asked because I have known since a long time ago that you and Ian were different. I think you really care about each other. I'm asking because I can't understand why you two separated despite you obviously caring so much about each other. Of course, every relationship has fights and misunderstandings. I can understand the decisions the both of you made. I just want to remind you that no matter what choice you made, just make sure that you won't regret it."

He lowered his head and replied, "Simply returning to normal life will be good for the both of us. You know, we don't have to be together to be happy; we can be happy on our own."
