I smiled, shook my head, and replied, "No, I just suddenly remembered him. With the influence of the Saunders family, it wouldn't be difficult to get him released from prison early."
Hendrix didn't seem to be that bothered about this matter. Perhaps in his opinion, he would be glad if Josiah could be released from prison earlier. After all, they used to be buddies in the past. Even if he resented Josiah for what he did, but that was all in the past now. He had gotten over it. Time always healed.
He replied as he continued driving, "The Saunders family will make their arrangements. Besides, he may go to Hanlusia City in the future. It would be hard for us to keep in touch then."
I pursed my lips. It seemed that the situation was similar to what I had imagined. Hendrix seemed to have already let go of his resentment towards Josiah.
"If, I mean what if!" I said seriously. I looked at Hendrix and continued, "I actually don't want him to come out. I want him to rot inside prison. Will you hate me for saying this?"
I wasn't sure of how he would react. He gave me a sideways glance and asked, "Is it because of Anne's illness? Is that why you hate him so much, and want him to suffer in prison?"
"Yes, but not only because of this!" I exclaimed. I was initially shocked upon finding out what Josiah had done, but now, there was nothing but contempt. There was always a dark side to everyone, no matter how good or how kind they were. The dark side was still present; it was just a matter of suppressing and controlling it.
Josiah was so abominable because he pretended to be a gentleman, but there was no trace of kindness in his heart. Even if Anne's illness was an accident, that couldn't explain what happened to Chloe.
He was killing people deliberately. I didn't know what he had done to Chloe to cause her disease, but I was sure he had deliberately placed Anne in the chemical plant.
His brow furrowed even more and asked, "Who did you run into today?"
Hendrix was not stupid. After hearing this, he had a rough guess about what was going on. Therefore, after a moment of silence, he opened his mouth and said, "I will find someone to investigate this. If he really has something to do with this, you don't have to do anything. I will report it to the police immediately. Arianna, focus too much of your energy on things that have nothing to do with us. We are just ordinary people. We can't save everyone. The only thing that can be done is to protect what belongs to us. Do you understand what I mean?"
I was startled by Hendrix's words. I couldn't really explain what I felt at that moment. There was some degree of surprise and relief at the same time. He was right. We were too small and insignificant. I had to be satisfied with being able to protect our own interests. We really had no reason to devote so much of our time and energy for others' sake.
