Then, Gail and his family were surrounded by a swarm of people. They started cursing and questioning them. Luckily there were people stopping them from acting impulsively, or else the family members of the deceased would've shred Gail apart.
The commotion attracted a huge crowd and everyone gathered around. There were people saying that they should be civilized, while some said that they should avenge their deceased son. The entire scene was chaotic. Laura and the children were crouched on the floor trembling, whereas Gail was completely shaken to his very core.
Life had always been harsh on them, but what was worse was the feeling of helplessness. Gail was well aware that no one was willing to listen to what he had to say. Thus, he just kept his head down and let them continue their cursing and scolding.
My wrist was grabbed by someone and I was taken aback. I lowered my head and saw that Abby was staring helplessly at me.
I was stupefied. She stared at me and said, "Madam Reid, please save my mom and dad. I'm
begging you."
I frowned and looked at her, "Abby, this is beyond my control."
There was only so much kindness in a person. Everyone was driven by motives and desires. I was not an exception. Sheridan was relieved when he saw that I was reluctant to help. He stared at me and said, "You can't be involved in this. You have a child in your belly, so you can't get yourself into trouble."
Of course, I was well aware of that, which was why I refused without any hesitation.
Rick was satisfied with what she said. He said, "Your second daughter is about to turn 14 years old. My son is dead, thus your daughter is going to be responsible for continuing our bloodline. All of you will have to find Susan, or else I might really consider killing Gail."
As he spoke, Rick stood up and looked at the girl cowering behind her father, trying to shield her youngest sister. He said, "You're Orchid, right? Your mother has already handed you over to me. Come home with me and bear a son for my family."
The girl was only in her teenage years. When she heard his words, she was so scared that her face turned pale. She kept shaking her head. Although she didn't understand what was going on, she knew that her life would be miserable if she followed the man home.
However, Rick didn't bother waiting for her response. He immediately picked her up and dragged her by her hair. She cried bitterly and kept calling out to her parents.
