The orphanage?
Sebastian did not only find children from remote mountain villages, but also from orphanages?
He was really good at exploiting desperate people and making a fortune from this.
"Do you know which orphanage it is?" This might be a lead. Orphanages always kept records. He must have adopted her from somewhere, so there were definitely records of it.
After giving it some thought, she shook her head slightly and said, "Winnie didn't tell me. When she came to my house, she only said that she was from an orphanage, but I'm not certain which one it was."
"Does your dad know?" Wendy's father should have come in contact with Sebastian in person. If he could testify against Sebastian, then it would aid us significantly.
Wendy shook her head, "I don't know."
Looking at her, I fell silent for a moment and uttered, "Wendy, you hate Sebastian, don't you?"
She was taken aback and stared blankly at me. She looked a little confused.
I added, "The bad guy should be brought to justice. If we don't do that, many more children might be exploited and harmed by him. I believe that you want him to be behind bars, don't you?"
I clearly understood how she felt. She was right. That person was her father and I was acting too rash, asking her father to confess to a crime like this. There was no way anyone would be willing to do that to their own father.
I went over to Anne's ward and saw that she was nowhere to be found. I was taken aback and anxiously tugged on Valerie's shirt. I asked, "Mom, where's Anne? Did her illness worsen again?"
Valerie raised her hand and motioned for me to calm down. She said, "Don't worry. She's fine. It's just that she needs to be isolated for now. She was brought to the sterile room by the doctor. We can visit her there."
I breathed a sigh of relief. Seeing that Abby was fast asleep on the bed, I felt a little guilty. Since the day she was brought here, she was in constant fear. I didn't have the time to look after her and thus I neglected her.
"Have you found this kid's identification documents? She can't operate without them. We have finally found a suitable candidate for Anne's surgery but now we are being held back by this registration issue." Valerie whispered in my ear and sighed, "This child is small for her age. You didn't mention it, but I'm a little worried if she will survive the operation. We have to take good care of her, otherwise I'm worried that she will have some other health complications in the future."
