She used to be a beautiful girl... How did she turn out this way?
I couldn't believe it, and was even slightly shocked.
"Irvin, are you badly hurt? Why didn't you answer my calls? Why didn't you tell us your condition?" asked Shirley. She put her luggage aside and sat down on the bed while placing the baby on her lap. Perhaps her arms felt sore after carrying the baby for such a long time, so she massaged her shoulder slightly.
After a while, she switched to her other arm.
Irvin frowned and looked at me with a cold gaze, "Did you ask her to come?"
I nodded and pursed my lips, "It's going to be the holidays soon. Would you want Shirley and the baby to spend it all alone?"
He didn't say anything, but just glanced at the child in Shirley's arms. A few moments later, he said indifferently, "All right, go to the hotel to have a rest. The hospital is too noisy for Dannie."
Shirley shook her head stubbornly and said, "It's all right. Dannie is obedient. The hospital is quiet. If I could stay with you, he would be more
obedient than usual."
Irvin frowned, but he did not say anything else.
I pursed my lips and observed the two of them. A bitter feeling swept over me. The once outstanding woman that I'd known had been replaced by this ordinary- looking dishevelled woman.
Was it time that had been unkind to her? Or was it Irvin's ruthlessness...
"Nothing!" I answered. I took a deep breath and said, "I'm going to look for Shirley!" Then I went out of the ward directly.
There were many people in the corridor of the hospital. As there were many patients, the seats on the corridor were also crowded. Dannie was just a baby and couldn't stop crying, while Shirley had no choice but sit on the ground, leaning against the cold wall. Then, she lifted her jumper to nurse her baby without even bothering to cover herself...
A once confident, pretty young lady had now fallen into such a dishevelled, pathetic state...
I walked over to her, took off my jacket, and covered her. She raised her head, looked at me with a complicated expression, and parted her lips. Probably because her mouth was a little dry from nervousness, her lips were cracking and made look particularly haggard.
"Thank you!" she whispered.
