I shivered at his cold stare. The surrounding temperature seemed to have dropped a few degrees. So, I stopped talking and focused on washing the dishes carefully.
I braced myself for his ridicule so his silence left me feeling out of sorts.
I peeked at him sideways and noticed that his eyes were flat. I couldn't read any emotion in them.
I couldn't stand the awkward silence. "Don't you have business with Sebastian? Why don't you go ahead and talk to him?"
He pretended he didn't hear me. His slender fingers carefully washed each porcelain bowl, his movements smooth and unhurried.
"I'm not in a hurry!" He simply said.
Awkward silence returned.
Then Hendrix's phone rang, breaking the uncomfortable quiet.
Instead of answering the phone, he looked at me expectantly.
I asked in confusion, "Yes?"
He said, "My hands are full. Sorry, but can you
answer the phone for me?"
At first, I stared at him uncomprehendingly, but then I realized that his mobile phone was in his trousers, and both of his hands were wet and slippery with soap.
I wiped my hands dry. I could help him but...
The corners of my eyes twitched as I mumbled, "Mr. Roberts, I don't think it's very convenient for me!"
He raised his eyebrows imperiously. "Why not?"
How could I just reach in to take things out of his pocket?
"Yes. Why?" Said the man of few words.
Rowane was unfazed with his shortness. She actually sounded happy through the phone. "I've brought all the previous records here today. Have a look. By the way, I figured you haven't had lunch so I've brought lunch too. You should try it later."
I grimaced. He is so lucky to have such a beauty as his lover!
Not hearing his response, I looked upto find him staring at me.
I didn't know what was going on in his head, but he answered, "Okay!"
Rowane couldn't hide her glee. She said, "Mr. Roberts, can you come out and help me open the door? I've already arrived at your building!"
Okay!" Hendrix replied then signaled for me to hang up.
I hung up the phone then shooed him out of the kitchen. "Go ahead and do your work. Leave the dishes to me!"
