My Pretty Sweetheart (Arianna) novel Chapter 1018

Rowane's flushed to the tips of her ears. She muttered, "This is the first time I've seen it. I've only seen snakes in books or on TV, but I've never really seen one in real life!"

Curious, I looked closely and huffed out a deep breath. If anyone could mistake an earthworm for a snake, that would be Rowane Zanes!

The fruits that Hendrix had been holding were scattered on the ground. It was probably because he'd dropped them when catching me out of instinct.

I found the bag and squatted down to pick the fruits up. Hendrix squatted down to help. He looked at me and said lightly, "Are you okay?"

I raised my eyebrows. "I'm perfectly fine!" I couldn't help but glance at Rowane. It's obvious that she did that to scare me. I doubted it was possible for her to make that big of a mistake.

Fortunately, Hendrix had been quick to catch me. Otherwise, I would be lying in a hospital bed for a while.

Rowane probably felt ignored. She walked over to Hendrix's side, lowered her voice, and whispered, "Mr. Roberts, I really didn't do it on purpose just now. I just haven't seen a snake before. That thing was small and soft, just like a snake. That's why I..."

"Let's just pick these up and go back!" Hendrix said in a soft voice that didn't sound like he was blaming her.

Rowane paused for a second but crouched down as well and started to pick up some fruits. Many of them were stained with mud. We would need to wash them after we head back.

There were quite a lot of fruits in those two bags. Rowane held one, Hendrix the other. It felt weird being empty-handed.

I looked at Rowane and said, "Miss Zanes, let me carry it!"

Rowane made as if to hand it to me then hesitated. She looked at Hendrix and said with a smile, "There's no need. You've just fallen from a tree. You must be frightened. Take it easy!"

I shook my head and said casually, "It's okay, I didn't fall hard. I wasn't hurt!"

Because of the rain, the road was muddy and wet, and my shoes were getting heavy with mud.

I was somewhat nervous as I walked. Fatigued set in, so I decided to find a place to rest once I got past the muddy stretch of road.

However, one misstep and I slipped. Landing with a loud plop on my backside.

The mud splashed all over me and the fruits in the bags.

I felt frustrated tears threaten to fall. My first thought was that I did not have a spare set of clothes to change into.

Tired and somewhat defeated, I simply sat in the mud and decided to rest there.
