Vernon agreed, "It seems that way. He probably doesn't want us to worry."
Crispin agreed as well. "Since he isn't feeling well and can't meet us today, let's head back for now. Next time, we can bring some yarrow to help with his recovery."
Bonnie lifted the carriage curtain, glancing back at the gates of the Atkinson residence as if one last look could bridge the distance to Manfred.
Crispin and Vernon exchanged a knowing glance. Vernon sighed and said, "It seems Manfred has feelings for you, Bonnie. Otherwise, he wouldn't go to such lengths for your sake."
"Vernon!" Bonnie quickly let the curtain drop, her face flushing red. She had always struggled to hide her thoughts from Crispin and Vernon, and this was no exception. It was the first time she had ever been interested in a man. But being so openly teased by her brother left her feeling flustered.
Vernon chuckled. "Why are you so embarrassed in front of me and Dad? We've already talked about it. We'll take care of your marriage to Manfred. Dad plans to speak with Mr. Holland Senior about it in the next couple of days."
"Wouldn't us proposing the arrangement first offend Mr. Atkinson?" Bonnie asked, a hint of concern in her voice. Traditionally, it was the man's role to take the lead in such matters.
Crispin couldn't help but laugh. "I will simply chat with Mr. Holland Senior. Bringing up the marriage will just be a casual mention. Ultimately, the decision rests with Manfred. He'll still need to make the formal proposal."
"Alright, then I'll leave it to you, Dad," Bonnie replied, feeling reassured.
She trusted her father and brother completely. They were meticulous in their plans and would never do anything to jeopardize her happiness.
…
Two hours later, the fabric merchants and tailors arrived with an array of dazzling fabrics and designs. The intricate handiwork on the dresses they brought was stunning—true masterpieces of craftsmanship.
"That's great!" Vivian's anticipation was evident.
Manfred said, "Let's prepare everything over the next two days. Once the dresses arrive, we'll leave Vlario."
Vivian nodded. "Alright, you make sure to get everything in order."
She didn't have much to prepare herself, but there was one thing…
"Before we leave, I need to see Mr. Marshman. There's something very important I need to ask him. I don't understand why he didn't come by today as he promised yesterday. It's so unlike him," she said, frowning.
Manfred rubbed his nose, a flicker of guilt crossing his face. "Many people in Vlario are willing to pay handsomely for his help. He's been swamped almost every day for the past couple of years. Perhaps today was just overwhelming for him. Tomorrow, I can take you to Holland Residence to see him."

Is the author going to finally portray Skylark as a brave woman who can argue and communicate like a normal person in this real world? Hoping so.......
I don't like this story portraying Skylark's personality as too weak, too naive, Can't even defend herself Like accepting every humiliation from Vera's schemes and injustice without saying anything or doing anything. I wonder who is the protagonist in this novel, Vera or Skylark....
