Bud found Vivian exceptionally young and attractive, even more beautiful than some celebrities. He had secretly taken a few photos earlier.
He had shared with a few friends who had similar interests, expressing his intention to "win over" this young beauty.
But when he tried to make conversation, he was immediately rebuffed. It seemed that the younger they were, the more bold they acted. But he believed that, in the end, they could still be deceived by material things.
Vivian coldly responded, "Your watch is fake. Even if it were real, it would be worth just over ten thousand dollars, but the fake one might not even be worth several thousand dollars. Sir, please leave."
Normally, she was patient with older people, but she couldn't muster any for this man.
Bud's face flushed with embarrassment, his frustration clear as he hadn't expected anyone to see through his fake watch. "You!"
Before Vivian could respond further, a woman from the front row turned to Bud and said, "I can tell. The young lady just wants some space. You're the one with bad intentions."
Bud felt frustrated but quickly realized that this young woman was not like the others he had encountered before—she wasn't easily deceived. With a sigh of resignation, he reluctantly returned to his seat.
Vivian didn't care much about the encounter. But when she got off the bus, passed through the checkpoint at the tourist attraction, and climbed nearly halfway up the mountain, Bud appeared again.
"Hey, no need to be so harsh," he said, trying to make amends.
Vivian glanced around. There were only a few scattered people ahead. It was true that not many people visited the mountain in the winter.
She had chosen the same trail Joe and Skylar had hiked that day, and she was carefully studying the path when Bud once again interrupted her.
Vivian responded calmly, "Alright, I understand."
"Is that really necessary? Calling for help? You might still be in school and don't understand the complexities of the world. Do you really think the manager of the tourist attraction will get involved with something so vague?
"And as for this Mr. Ziegler you're calling, is he someone reliable? You should just give in and let me be your support."
He was convinced she was just trying to bluff, thinking that youth made her naïve.
Vivian glanced at the hiking stick in her hand, which looked sturdy enough to be useful if she needed to defend herself.
"How about I tell you a little rumor about this place? It's something people don't usually talk about, but I saw it with my own eyes. Do you know Joe Martin, the former CEO of Martin Group? He and his wife disappeared over two years ago. The news even covered it," Bud lowered his voice and glanced around before whispering to Vivian.

Is the author going to finally portray Skylark as a brave woman who can argue and communicate like a normal person in this real world? Hoping so.......
I don't like this story portraying Skylark's personality as too weak, too naive, Can't even defend herself Like accepting every humiliation from Vera's schemes and injustice without saying anything or doing anything. I wonder who is the protagonist in this novel, Vera or Skylark....
