Aiken's expression changed upon hearing Wendy's words. "Have you thought this through? This is the only call I'll make to you."
He could tolerate Wendy's little temper tantrums, but he wouldn't indulge her too much. He wouldn't change the rules for her.
"Aiken, thank you for everything you've done for me over the years. But please don't tell Simona about me. Let's just pretend we never knew each other. I wish you well.
"If it weren't for your help back then, I wouldn't be where I am today. From now on, we each go our separate ways," Wendy said with a smile.
Even though they were talking over the phone and couldn't see each other's faces, he still chose to smile while saying these words. It was time for them to move on.
Aiken was silent for a few seconds before ending the call.
After hanging up, Wendy immediately blocked Aiken's number. She knew that, given his personality, he wouldn't call or try to contact her again.
She lowered her head and gazed at the slight bulge of her abdomen, her face soft with tenderness.
…
Aiken sat alone in his study for a long time, all the way into the late hours of the night.
The house was quiet. Simona hadn't come home today, and she rarely did. Only the maids remained.
At 2:00 am, Aiken dialed Zera's number.
Zera had been waiting for Aiken's call for the past few days. As soon as she received the call, she nearly jumped out of her seat. "You finally called me, Aiken! You have no idea how scared I've been these past few days. I thought you might not want me anymore."
"Where are you?" Aiken asked coldly.
Zera quickly replied, "I'm staying in the apartment you gave me. Are you coming to see me?"
"Wait for me," he replied simply.
She had come to terms with it. Today it could be Zera by Aiken's side, and tomorrow, it might be someone else—just not Wendy.
Aiken watched Simona drunkenly stagger inside before deciding not to leave. Instead, he followed her back into the house.
…
Skylar had just arrived at work and hadn't even started her day when her phone rang. It was from Thora.
"I've divorced, Mrs. Martin," she said, her voice flat.
Skylar looked up in surprise. "Divorced? Are you still at the courthouse? I'll send you a picture, and you can show it to your husband. I'll come by to see you later tonight."
"No need, Mrs. Martin."

Is the author going to finally portray Skylark as a brave woman who can argue and communicate like a normal person in this real world? Hoping so.......
I don't like this story portraying Skylark's personality as too weak, too naive, Can't even defend herself Like accepting every humiliation from Vera's schemes and injustice without saying anything or doing anything. I wonder who is the protagonist in this novel, Vera or Skylark....
