Joe withdrew his gaze and tugged at his tie.
"I'll head upstairs to change. Be right back."
Skylar noticed something seemed off about him but didn't dwell on it.
Joe had been extremely busy lately. He was probably overworked and exhausted. Coupled with the gloomy, rainy day, it was no surprise his mood might be affected.
Once she finished setting the table, Skylar sat down to wait for him.
Joe soon came downstairs in his loungewear.
They exchanged a few casual words during dinner but didn't talk much.
After finishing their meal, Joe washed the dishes and returned to sit with Skylar on the couch. His expression turned serious as he finally spoke.
"On the way home earlier, Elsie blocked my car."
Skylar raised an eyebrow. "Elsie?"
For a moment, she couldn't recall who that was, though the name felt vaguely familiar. It must be some she had encountered before.
"You saw her last time at the airport when you came to pick me up," Joe clarified.
Skylar immediately remembered and nodded. "I remember now. What did she want?"
Joe gave a faint acknowledgment. "She claimed she's someone who has been reborn."
"What?" Skylar said in surprise.
She had always suspected that someone would be reborn again, but she didn't expect it to resurface so soon—and with someone she had previously met.
But something didn't add up.
Why had Elsie approached Joe specifically? Could it be…
"If she told you about her rebirth, then what she said must have been related to you, right?" Skylar guessed.
"I'd like to meet her sometime. Do you have her contact information?" Skylar asked, trying to steady herself.
She knew her experiences from her previous life could no longer hurt her. Those who had wronged her had already faced their deserved outcomes years ago, leaving no emotional ripples in her heart.
What she cared about now was whether Elsie being reborn was caused by some kind of dark force.
If so, who was behind it? And how did they know so much about her past life? If not, then Elsie's claims raised another question. Was her connection to Joe in their supposed past life real or fabricated?
Joe poured a cup of warm water and handed it to Skylar. "Take a sip. She doesn't have much to do with us, but if someone tries to use her to target me or you, they'll fail."
Skylar accepted the cup and took a sip. The warmth of the water instantly eased the chill in her chest.
"You're right," she then said.
Joe noticed Skylar's emotions beginning to calm down. Having been married for years, they were intimately familiar with each other's moods, and Skylar couldn't hide her feelings from him.
His eyes darkened imperceptibly as he pondered in silence.

Is the author going to finally portray Skylark as a brave woman who can argue and communicate like a normal person in this real world? Hoping so.......
I don't like this story portraying Skylark's personality as too weak, too naive, Can't even defend herself Like accepting every humiliation from Vera's schemes and injustice without saying anything or doing anything. I wonder who is the protagonist in this novel, Vera or Skylark....
