Finn was momentarily stunned.
But he quickly regained his composure. After Janine said "hello" a second time, he hurriedly said, "It's me, Finn."
Janine fell silent immediately, her tone turning cold. "What do you want?"
Finn was momentarily taken aback. In his memory, Janine from 20 years ago had always looked at him with nothing but affection. She had never shown any signs of a spoiled attitude and was gentle and understanding.
If it weren't for poverty back then, he might not have left.
With a sigh, he said, "There's no need for things to be so strained between us. Some matters aren't as terrible as you think, and I'm not as bad as you thought. A lot has happened recently, and I think you might have misunderstood me."
"There's clearly nothing important. I'm hanging up. Don't call me again. You're just a stranger to me," Janine replied with the same icy tone.
Finn recalled their last meeting, which had also ended in hostility. Janine hadn't shown the slightest regard for him back then, either.
"Wait! I want to see you. Can you come to Murida? I want to talk face-to-face. These years have been hard on you, and I know I owe you," Finn said quickly.
He could tell that when Janine said she'd hang up, she meant it.
On Janine's end, when she heard Finn's words, it was as though she'd heard something absurd. "Murida? I wouldn't see you even if you were in Jipsburg, let alone in Murida."
"Who is it?" Ted asked.
Janine answered warmly, "A piece of garbage."
Then, she hung up the phone.
…
After so many years of marriage, they knew each other too well.
She immediately figured out that Finn was still thinking about Janine. Otherwise, he wouldn't look so utterly distraught.
Finn snapped back to reality. "Can you stop overthinking? How could I still be thinking about her? She won't even listen to me, let alone come to Murida. I think we should move somewhere else—maybe Askea."
Miriam frowned. "It's true that we can buy a kidney over there, but I don't trust them. What if there's a risk of infection or something worse? I won't feel at ease. The best option is still one of your sons."
"They… I think that's impossible now. They have made it very clear—they're just like Janine. They've completely cut us off. Besides, they don't need money. No matter how much we offer, they won't accept it," Finn said, his voice heavy with resignation.
After speaking with Janine just now, he finally realized what had happened.
However, Miriam refused to give up. "I'll call Janine myself!"

Is the author going to finally portray Skylark as a brave woman who can argue and communicate like a normal person in this real world? Hoping so.......
I don't like this story portraying Skylark's personality as too weak, too naive, Can't even defend herself Like accepting every humiliation from Vera's schemes and injustice without saying anything or doing anything. I wonder who is the protagonist in this novel, Vera or Skylark....
