Simona arrived at the dormitory building where Stephen lived and immediately called him. Stephen explained that after finishing his work last night, he had gotten some sleep at a smoothie shop and was currently on the subway heading back to campus.
While waiting for him, she encountered one of his roommates, Bruno Middleton.
"It's you! Stephen isn't here," Bruno said.
Simona smiled and nodded. "I know. He just called me. He'll be back soon."
Bruno chuckled. "He's been busy with something lately. He hasn't stayed in the dorm much this past month, so we hardly see him."
"A month?" Simona was taken aback. Over the past month, she had been preoccupied with her busy schedule, so she hadn't paid much attention to whether Stephen was staying in the dormitory at night.
She had thought that Stephen had been staying at the hospital for a few days because of his uncle's hospitalization, which was why he hadn't returned to campus.
But now, the realization that he hadn't been around for a whole month felt unusual.
"I haven't counted, but it feels like that," Bruno replied, not wanting to elaborate further.
Although they shared a dorm, Stephen always seemed friendly with everyone. Yet, there was an air of secrecy about him, creating an unexplainable distance between him and others.
It became evident that Simona didn't truly know much about Stephen at all.
Bruno felt a pang of pity for Simona, realizing that as Stephen's girlfriend, she didn't know much about her boyfriend at all. After Bruno left, she sat down on a nearby chair, her mind wandering and her expression clouded with concern.
"Honestly, I wanted to surprise you that day with something really romantic. I wanted you to see just how great your boyfriend is and how hard I'm working. Unfortunately, your friend completely ruined my plans last night.
"I know that your friend didn't do it on purpose, so I've forgiven him. But what really frustrates me is that what should have been a surprise turned into a scare and a misunderstanding, which made you upset with me. Just for that, I can't bring myself to forgive him."
After Stephen finished speaking, his expression was filled with grievance. Stephen was undeniably handsome, and now with that pitiful expression, it was easy to dismiss any doubts and just feel sorry for him.
Simona truly felt her resolve waver for a moment. She even thought that perhaps she had been a bit too harsh and shouldn't have doubted Stephen.
After all, he hadn't meant for any of this to happen.
However, that thought only lingered for a moment before other ideas came to mind. "So, is that what's going on? The company hasn't opened yet, right? But I assume the location has already been chosen?" Simona asked.

Is the author going to finally portray Skylark as a brave woman who can argue and communicate like a normal person in this real world? Hoping so.......
I don't like this story portraying Skylark's personality as too weak, too naive, Can't even defend herself Like accepting every humiliation from Vera's schemes and injustice without saying anything or doing anything. I wonder who is the protagonist in this novel, Vera or Skylark....
