Ella quickly pretended to be aggrieved, her tears falling instantly.
"I didn't say anything! Maybe she discovered something, I don't know."
Hearing this, James stiffly released her, too scared to look toward the bed.
"It can't be! She wouldn't have discovered anything! It's you! Did you tell her?!"
Her eyes were bloodshot, her behavior frantic, scaring Ella.
She shook her head repeatedly. "No! I didn't say anything! You said if I did, you'd kill me! I value my life!"
Before she could say anything else, James couldn't listen anymore.
His mind and heart were completely occupied with Zoe, who was pale on the bed. Even the usually non-religious James clasped his hands together and began praying.
Time passed, though how long, he couldn't tell.
Finally, Zoe regained consciousness, and all the doctors sighed in relief.
James, his face covered in tears, grasped her hand. "Zoe, you scared me. I thought I was going to lose you..."
His voice trembled, his hand shaking.
The emotion was genuine.
Zoe closed her eyes.
She was so tired.
She didn't want to hear his lines anymore, nor did she want to see them.
During the two days she was hospitalized, James stayed by her side, not leaving her for a second. Even when he went to get food, he would video call her, worried she might fall ill again.
Finally, after recovering, she received a message from a client who had missed several lessons.
"Ms. Davis, are you feeling better? When can we schedule the lesson for my child?"
Zoe tore off the bandage from her hand. "How about this afternoon?"
The client confirmed for 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.
It was already noon.
She ended the video call with James and, grabbing her bag, left the hospital.
She had given all her savings to James, and now only had a thousand left.
Before she left for abroad, she needed to earn a bit more.
At the hospital, the moment the call was ended, James sensed something was wrong. He ran to the sixth floor in a hurry.
He found the room empty.
The intense feeling of unease made his heart race faster.
With a stern face, he called his assistant. "Find out where Zoe went!"
At the same time, Ella approached him from behind, her hands roaming over his chest.
He shoved her off, but she clung to him again.
Meanwhile, Zoe arrived at a villa in the suburbs.
A foreign woman greeted her and, with a smile, handed her a cup of hot milk. The little boy, who resembled her, beamed at her.
She had been teaching him language for almost half a year, and they were quite familiar by now.
The call was answered.
But what appeared on the screen were two intertwined figures.
The indecent sounds mixed with the gunshot ringtone, completely shattering her sanity.
She cried out loudly, shouting at the phone, “Help me! James! Don't do this to me!”
In response, the sounds from the two figures became more intense.
She watched helplessly as James gripped Ella's waist, moving up and down.
Those dirty fluids soaked the pants she had bought for him.
She had saved up for half a month to buy them.
She bought them just because James had said he wanted a decent outfit for an interview.
“Slow down, James!” Ella moaned.
“I can't slow down! I have to find Zoe! Why are you so easy? Don't come to me until I officially propose!”
After speaking, his fingers dug into Ella's soft flesh.
His wild face was full of passion and enjoyment.
Zoe gasped for air, her vision starting to fade.
The boy cried as he fumbled to dial his mother's phone.
His voice seemed to come from another world.
Every time a tear slid down Zoe's face, her cheek burned with pain.
