My Birthday, My Downfall novel Chapter 7

Lily held him back.

"Jake, they just said there's no one in the river. Big sister might have escaped with those people."

"After all, she hired them. It makes sense they would help her flee."

This time, Jake didn't go along with her words.

Instead, he coldly shook her off, saying:

"You heard what the suspect said. He said they weren't hired by Emma but were paid by you to do this."

"Even if he's lying, your constantly preventing us from saving Emma and pushing everything onto her is very strange."

"Lily, until the truth comes out, you're not going anywhere. Stay put."

Lily's body trembled, and she wanted to say something more, but Jake broke free and jumped into the river.

Mom and Dad also looked at Lily with suspicion.

"Lily, at last year's birthday, you said Emma forced you to sleep with many men. She's been punished, but until now, you've never told us who those men were or where you were forced."

"You even prevented us from calling the police, saying you didn't want to ruin your reputation."

"Was there really no such thing? Did you make it all up to harm your sister?"

Dad coldly asked the question that had been bothering him all along.

Lily shook her head in panic, violently tearing at her hair.

"No! I didn't lie. She hurt me like that, and now you want to protect her?"

Mom sighed.

"That's not it. It just seems strange. If you didn't want to ruin your reputation, you could have told us privately after the birthday party."

"But you said it in front of everyone, which is contradictory."

"The police are now questioning that suspect. If you don't want to be found out, you'd better tell us quickly!"

Even now, Mom was still considering Lily's interests.

"I understand. Dad, Mom, since you don't believe me, I'll prove it to you."

Lily gave a miserable smile, then climbed onto the windowsill and jumped down.

"No!"

"Lily!"

Mom and Dad were thrown into panic, quickly calling for people to jump down and save her.

But the night was too dark, and the river's condition was unclear. No one could immediately find where Lily was.

After Jake swam back to shore and heard that Lily had also jumped into the river, he wanted to go down again to find her.

At this moment, the door of the adjacent room opened.

The police brought out the captured suspect.

"Mr. Stone, Mrs. Stone, the suspect has confessed everything."

"What did you do to her?! Speak!"

Jake's voice broke, scaring the suspect, who shook his head desperately, refusing to say more.

He knew that if he told the truth, the brother in front of him would surely tear him apart on the spot.

Dad earnestly requested the police to find the dozen or so suspects who had escaped as quickly as possible.

The police nodded and left with the suspect.

Mom, Dad, and Jake kept vigil by the river all night but found nothing.

As dawn approached, good news arrived from the police station.

Lily had been found.

When Mom, Dad, and Jake reached the police station, they witnessed Lily being interrogated.

It turned out her self-sacrificing jump to prove her innocence had been fake.

She actually wanted to escape, knowing the captured suspect would soon provide concrete evidence against her.

So she came up with this trick, secretly avoiding the search party and sneaking ashore under cover of darkness.

The money Mom and Dad had given her over the years was enough for her to flee to any country she wanted.

She quickly returned to the mansion to grab her passport and ID, then rushed to the airport to buy the earliest flight out of the country.

But she was intercepted before boarding.
