Gloria and I exchanged a shocked glance. Could it be that the company's previous difficulties weren't just due to the market, but that someone had sabotaged it?
Countless thoughts flashed through my mind, while Gloria clenched her fists, her eyes flashing with determination.
We knew that the battle had just begun, and we could not afford to slack off.
I stared at my brother in disbelief and said, "Bryan, I didn't expect you to do something like this. Aunt Stevens has been kind to you. Even though you stole tens of thousands of her jewelry, she didn't report it to the police because of Dad's face. And now you've stolen her company's secrets. You're heartless!"
But my brother didn't care at all, arrogantly holding the celebrity and walking away, saying, "Hmph, what can you do to me?"
Watching him leave, I clenched my fists in anger. Aunt Stevens was still ill, so I decided not to tell her about this just yet. I would investigate quietly and bring Bryan to justice myself.
I made a silent vow, "Bryan, your misdeeds will eventually be exposed."
Soon after, Aunt Stevens's health began to improve, and our company, through everyone's efforts, gradually rose to become a leading industry player again. Things were getting better and better.
Feeling the timing was right, I told Aunt Stevens about my brother's theft and sale of her company's secrets, presenting all the evidence I had gathered.
Aunt Stevens was furious when she saw the evidence. She slammed her hand on the table and said, "This bastard! I've tolerated him for so long, and he's still so ungrateful! This time, I won't let him get away with it!" She immediately reported the case to the police.
Bryan was arrested for selling the company's secrets, and my mother, in a panic, came to find me. As soon as we met, she slapped me and scolded, "You ungrateful wretch, how could you harm your own brother? Don't you have any conscience?"
I shouted back in frustration, "Mom, listen to reason! He did it himself!"
Just then, Gloria, who had just gotten off work, intervened. She quickly called someone to escort my mother away and warned her, "Don't ever disturb him again, or you'll regret it!"
After my mother was driven away, she kept cursing under her breath.
When Aunt Stevens found out about this, she took my hand and said gently, "Child, you've worked so hard these days. I've decided to adopt you as my son and make you my heir."
Tears welled up in my eyes as I replied, "Aunt Stevens, thank you for your trust and love. I won't let you down."
When my brother found out, he fainted from anger in prison.
My father, upon hearing about Aunt Stevens's resurgence, came to beg for forgiveness, smiling broadly as he said to her, "Dear, I always knew you would make it. I've always believed in you."
Aunt Stevens sneered and said, "Hmph, what good is your praise now? I've seen through you. With my wealth, what kind of man can't I find?"
In the end, I went to see my brother. He looked haggard and asked me, "Why? Why is it that when I chose my mother, it ended up like this? I can't accept it. Why is your life so much better?"
I looked at him calmly and said, "It's because your heart is twisted, heartless. No matter where you go, this is the outcome."
My brother collapsed into tears, crying, "I was wrong, I really was wrong."
And I turned and walked away.
Afterward, Gloria and I got married and successfully inherited Aunt Stevens's company. At the wedding, I said deeply to Gloria, "Gloria, from now on, we walk this road together."
Gloria smiled and replied, "Yes, for a lifetime."
Life continued to get better. One day, while shopping, I saw a man who looked just like my father. Upon closer inspection, it was really him, but he had become a beggar.
I couldn't help but feel some emotion. I had someone give him 100,000 dollars and said, "This is the end of our father-son relationship."
I then turned and walked away, thinking, "From now on, I walk my own path, and he will walk his. We shall never meet again."
