My Birthday, My Downfall novel Chapter 62

I stared at the ground and softly replied, "Okay."

When I entered the station, I put away the umbrella.

I looked back outside. The snow was falling heavily, and Philip was still standing by the car.

A layer of snow had settled on his shoulders.

But he didn't move at all.

I withdrew my gaze and let out a long sigh.

I felt a little gloomy, and I missed Ethan a bit.

When I got home, it was already dark.

My phone had been very quiet all day.

I hesitated several times, wondering whether I should call Ethan.

But then I thought, he hadn't contacted me, so he might be busy.

It's better not to disturb him.

I went to bed, and when I woke up the next day, my phone still had no messages.

The snow photo I posted on my Instagram hadn't even gotten a like from Ethan.

A strange sense of unease began to rise in my heart.

Was something wrong with Ethan?

Various speculations troubled me the entire day.

In the evening, heavy snow had already blocked the roads.

My mom hadn't returned from her mahjong game, and I was still home alone.

I suddenly really wanted to see Ethan.

It was the first time I actively called him.

But he didn't answer.

I told myself it was fine, he was probably too busy.

But when it was completely dark outside, I began to panic.

Aside from Philip, I had no one else to ask about Ethan.

Philip was surprised that I reached out to him.

"Autumn? What's wrong?"

His voice was filled with excitement.

But when I asked about Ethan, it quickly turned low and despondent.

"Oh, he's not at the company, he went back to the old house.

"The engagement that the Thomas family arranged for him was always planned to be announced by the end of the year. Ethan... he's tied up with it right now."

It took me a while to fully grasp the meaning behind his words.

Ethan was getting engaged.

But he had never mentioned it to me.

Philip sighed quietly.

"Autumn, I told you, you two were never going to work out."

"Alright, I understand."

I quickly hung up the phone and curled up on the couch.

It felt like there was a hole in my chest, and all the cold wind outside seemed to rush right through it.

No wonder he said I could call it off at any time.

It turns out, this relationship really wasn't in his control.

Even though it hurt deeply, I couldn't bring myself to cry.

I stared into space for a while, then sent Ethan a message.

"Ethan, let's break up."

I wrapped myself in a blanket and fell into a deep sleep on the couch.

It wasn't until the middle of the night that my phone vibrating woke me up.

I groggily answered the phone.

A deep voice came from the other side.

Over the phone, Ethan laughed softly.

"Seen it? All my exhaustion disappeared in an instant."

My nose turned sour, and I almost cried.

Without thinking, I ran downstairs.

I didn't even hang up the phone.

Ethan heard my hurried footsteps and softly said,

"It's cold downstairs, don't come down."

I couldn't help but snap at him.

"If you knew it was cold, why did you drive over here?!"

When I reached the first floor, I saw Ethan walking toward me.

He opened his arms, and I rushed into his embrace.

The chill from his coat wrapped around me instantly.

I hugged his waist and whispered complaints.

"I told you not to come look for me.

"What if something happened on the road in this snowstorm?"

Ethan lowered his head and rubbed my hair.

His cool lips lightly brushed my face, gentle and tender.

"But I missed you too much."

I loosened my grip and looked up at him.

"Did you get my message?"

Ethan opened the chat.

"You mean this message?"

I nodded.

He casually deleted the breakup message right in front of me.
