My Birthday, My Downfall novel Chapter 47

Dad’s eyes were reddened, his voice trembling as he said.

“I’m sorry, it’s my fault. I don’t have the ability. On your birthday, I made you eat this kind of thing.”

Mom held Dad’s hand, crying.

“Dear, you’ve tried your best.”

Seeing them repeat their tricks, I numbly took the cake and forced myself to eat it, the dirt still sticking to it.

“Dad, Mom, the cake is really sweet.”

As I said this, I held back my tears, not allowing them to fall. My heart had already shattered into pieces.

When my parents saw me obediently eating the cake, they smiled, wiping their tears away.

“Our daughter has really grown up.”

Hearing those words, I suddenly felt how ridiculous they were.

Dad stared at me, suddenly noticing the bruises on my face. He angrily asked.

“What happened to your face? Did someone hit you?”

“Which bastard dared to hit my daughter! I’ll fight him!”

Dad rolled up his sleeves, looking furious.

At that moment, a whirlwind of emotions stirred within me.

When I was in elementary school, because of my poverty, I was bullied by my classmates, and my face was scratched until it bled.

Dad angrily went to find the other family, but because they had more people, he ended up beaten and came back bruised. Eventually, it was only through his stubbornness that the bullies swore not to hurt me again.

At that time, he became my hero, and while others had idols, I only worshipped him.

But now I realized how naive and childish my thoughts were back then.

This father of mine, the one who had his bodyguard beat his own flesh and blood, was now pretending to be furious about it.

I hid the sorrow in my eyes and shook my head.

“No one bullied me. I fell by myself.”

Mom hugged me and cried.

“You have to be careful in the future. You’re a piece of flesh from my body. When you’re hurt, I’m in pain too.”

Taking advantage of this moment, I said.

“Dad, Mom, a while ago, I gave you my scholarship money. Could you return it to me? That’s my money for studying abroad.”

Both of them were stunned for a moment.

Dad fell silent for a while, looking troubled.

He said earnestly.

“Charlotte, what’s so good about studying abroad? It’s just a fad. Why not stay here with us, it’s better to be with your parents in the country?”

“We’ll keep this money for you, so you don’t get scammed.”

I nodded in resignation and returned to my room.

As soon as I closed the door, I heard Dad’s phone ring.

He glanced at my room, then he and Mom hurried to the bathroom.

I quietly approached and overheard their conversation. Their voices were patient, but I could feel the unease.

“Mia, why are you calling us suddenly? Didn’t we tell you not to call us at home?”

“Dad, I need some money.”

They exchanged a look.

“Didn’t your dad give you a card during your birthday? There’s 100,000 euros on it.”

Mia’s voice sounded impatient.

“It’s not enough. Just now, I invited a group of classmates to my birthday, and a few bottles of red wine were finished. Dad, can you send another 100,000 euros?”

Dad hesitated, and Mom nudged him, her face full of dissatisfaction.

“Dear, what are you still considering? Mia isn’t like Charlotte. Don’t say 100,000, even 500,000 is fine, she’s the heir to the Parker family!”

“Think about it, Mia is beautiful, has great temperament. We adopted her to bring glory to the Parker family.”

“Charlotte has scars on her face. She can’t inherit the family business. We can’t let this shame continue.”

“Right, that fire when she was little, Charlotte burned her face. She’s indeed not suitable to inherit the business.”
