My Birthday, My Downfall novel Chapter 43

There was also a video, sent just three minutes earlier, showing Eileen surrounded and pinned down by twelve men.

Noah's mind went blank. Panicked, he dashed out of the office, blindly running through red lights.

"That can't be happening. No way! No!" he muttered to himself as he drove, feeling a whirlwind of emotions.

He hated Eileen for what had happened years ago when he received a call from the police and hospital about Rosy—she'd been raped and killed, and his sister had ended up in the hospital too.

He felt disbelief wash over him.

How could this happen?

But when he arrived at the morgue and saw Rosy's lifeless body, he lost it. Twelve men? What kind of monsters were they?

Her legs shattered, her pelvis broken...

How much had Rosy suffered?

He had repeatedly told Eileen to not take Rosy out at night. Why didn't Eileen listen?

He'd lived in pain since that night, and every time he saw Eileen, he was reminded of the cold rain. After that, he stopped celebrating birthdays and wouldn't even look at her.

To escape from the pain, he even adopted another sister. He resented Eileen, but he never wanted her dead.

"No, this is not gonna happen," he murmured.

When he reached the alley, he saw a crowd gathered—police cars, ambulances, way too many people.

"No, no..."

Ignoring the officers trying to stop him, Noah rushed to the stretcher covered with a white sheet. His hands were trembling as he struggled to lift the cover.

"Sir, do you recognize the deceased?" an officer asked.

With shaking hands, Noah slowly peeled back the sheet, revealing a scene drenched in blood.

His heart dropped—there lay Eileen, his sister, who'd been alive just yesterday and had annoyed him.

In that instant, the world around him faded to silence. The officer was speaking, but he couldn't hear a thing. His ears buzzed, and his mind was lost in chaos.

"Noah, can you braid my hair?"

"Noah, I can't solve this problem."

"Noah, I love Rosy. She will be my sister-in-law."

"Noah, how can I make you forgive me?"

Eileen...

What he had said before was all out of anger. If she only opened her eyes now, he'd forgive her right away.

No, he wasn't mad anymore. As long as she opened her eyes, he'd take her home, braid her hair, cook for her, and chauffeur her around like a personal servant.

"Please, just wake up!" he thought in his head.

But no one answered.
