Marrying the Man in the Dark (Damien and Cherise) novel Chapter 1143

Chapter 1143 A Couple's Confrontation
For an instant, Colin found himself frozen in place; his jaw slackened, his mind momentarily adrift as if his very essence had momentarily departed his body.

A heart, dormant and silent for so long, suddenly stirred within him, quickening its pace. His pulse raced, and his voice faltered as he struggled to articulate, "Why... why did you just call me dar..."

Yet, before he could finish, his gaze fell upon Lennon seated by the window, a woman at his side.

In that fleeting moment, the surge of emotions within Colin faltered, freezing in place, much like the incomplete words hanging in the air.

Hah... it turns out her sudden display of affection was all because of Lennon...

A wry chuckle escaped Colin's lips as he realized the truth. I already knew that she... What did I really expect? he mused inwardly, his tone laced with sarcasm.

Though disappointment lingered within him, he understood his role in this charade and played along accordingly.

With a faint smile, Colin reached out to affectionately pinch Lucy on the nose. "How about some blueberry muffins then?"

Lucy tilted her head in agreement, her body leaning into his shoulder with a sweet smile. "Thank you so much, darling."

Colin's body seemed to react involuntarily to Lucy's sweet voice, a sensation as if he lost all sense of bodily control washing over him.

Meanwhile, a man, being attended to by Violet, appeared equally unsettled.

His gaze bore into Colin and Lucy with icy intensity, casting a palpable chill over the cafe.

"Is that Lucy?" Violet's voice cut through the tension.

Feigning surprise, Violet turned her attention to Colin and Lucy, her tone saccharine sweet. "It's been ages since we last saw each other."

From the instant Lucy stepped in, Lennon's eyes remained fixed on her, a gaze impossible for Violet to ignore.

Unable to deter Lennon's attention, Violet decided to acknowledge Lucy's presence and beckoned her over.

With a sweet smile, Violet addressed with fake excitement, "Lulu! It's me! Remember?"

Lucy's eyes turned into silts.

With a cold demeanor, the woman firmly grasped Colin's hand. "Shall we take our seats over there, Darling?"

Colin could only offer Lennon a helpless smile before allowing Lucy to guide him to another part of the café.

"It's been years, and she's still just as irritating!" Despite being seated at opposite ends of the café, the café's compound was tightly confined, and Violet's words traveled through the space between them, reaching Lucy's ears with precision.

A cold chuckle escaped Lucy's lips, feigning normalcy as if she did not hear Violet's complaints. She turned to Colin's direction, smiling warmly. "Darling, I'm feeling rather cheerful today and craving something sweet."

Colin's expression tensed imperceptibly, and he coughed lightly. "If that's what you desire... then let's indulge in something sweet today."

Despite his longing to grow closer to Lucy since their marriage, Colin understood the boundaries of their arrangement. He had always maintained a respectful distance, never experiencing the endearment of being called "darling." Lucy's sudden affection left him feeling disoriented, unsure of how to respond.

Lucy's words were laced with a playful tone as she continued with a grin, "You can't ignore me if I gain a few extra pounds. And if there comes a day when you can no longer lift me, you're not allowed to complain!"

While she spoke, Lucy couldn't resist stealing a sidelong glance at the couple seated by the window.
