Selina’s call came through, and Old Mr. Brown couldn’t say much more.
"Go ahead and answer," he said.
Logan let out a low chuckle and pressed the answer button.
Selina’s voice came through. "Logan, where are you?"
Logan glanced at Old Mr. Brown, then said calmly, "The Brown estate is too big. I got lost."
On the other end, Selina seemed speechless for a few seconds. "Want me to send someone to get you?"
Logan chuckled again. "No need. I’ve found my way. I’ll be there soon."
After hanging up, Logan said politely, "Sir, Selina’s looking for me. If there’s nothing else, I’ll take my leave."
Old Mr. Brown grumbled and waved his hand impatiently. "At least you know your place."
Logan raised a brow slightly. "I’m not an idiot."
Old Mr. Brown watched him leave, eyes narrowing.
It wasn’t that he had a personal grudge against Logan. He just wanted to uncover the truth.
He’d been friends with the Ghost Doctor for decades. Back when Damien was young, he had trusted the Ghost Doctor enough to let him raise Damien. That same Ghost Doctor was also the one Selina called "Grandpa."
But four years ago, the Ghost Doctor suddenly claimed something had happened to Selina. He rushed out of the house—no phone, no coat—and was never seen again.
Selina was brought home, covered in blood. Logan was the one who had brought her back.
And ever since, the Ghost Doctor had completely vanished.
Old Mr. Brown never understood how the Ghost Doctor could’ve known something was wrong. But the fact was: Selina had been gravely injured, and the Ghost Doctor disappeared. Logan, however, remained unharmed.
That’s why Old Mr. Brown suspected Logan knew more than he let on. But no matter how deep he probed, Logan seemed genuinely unaware of what happened.
Old Mr. Brown sank into thought.
...
Back at the banquet, things were in full swing.
Grandma Morris sat watching Selina laugh and talk with the Brown family at the head table, her face twitching with resentment.
Why should Selina get so lucky? Back then, she hadn’t pushed for Selina’s return to the Morris family—and had even hinted Katie should abandon her—and now that "abandonment" had led Selina to be taken in by the Browns?
She needed to figure out a way to make the Brown family hate Selina...
As she was plotting, the doors to the hall suddenly opened.
Someone walked in...
Logan?
Grandma Morris instantly felt annoyed. She’d thought he wouldn’t come, which gave her plenty of chances to humiliate Selina. But now that he was here...
She couldn’t help herself from throwing shade.
"Selina, looks like Mr. Reid is here for you."
Selina nodded. "Yep. Logan came for me."
Grandma Morris gave a cold laugh. "Mr. Reid must not know about your relationship with the Browns. He’s probably worried you’re being bullied."
Selina replied casually, "Yeah, he’s worried I’m being bullied. What’s wrong with that? He’s my husband—of course he’d protect me."
Grandma Morris: "..."
She was trying to insult Selina for relying on a man—but Selina didn’t seem to get it?!
Mrs. Brown frowned. Ugh, Selina was still too naive. Couldn’t she tell Grandma Morris was up to no good? Why even engage?
