Daniel stood blankly on the balcony after the call ended.
A breeze blew, sending a chill deep into his body, causing him to shiver.
Memories flooded in, recalling a time when Maisie would comfort him by adding extra layers of clothing during such moments of love. But now, she no longer held that love for him.
Not only did she not love him anymore, but there was also an overwhelming sense of resentment.
Exhausted, he shut his eyes.
In reality, Linda was right. Instead of allowing Maisie to harbor hatred fueled by painful memories, it would be better for her to live again with those memories erased.
A knock on the balcony door interrupted his thoughts. "Mr. Quimby, Ms. Squire is awake."
Daniel turned around quickly but hesitated as he entered the room.
The doctor promptly handed him hot water and medicine. "Mr. Quimby, Ms. Squire needs to take her medication on time to calm herself. Are you…"
After a prolonged moment of contemplation, Daniel finally made up his mind. "Let me do it."
Maisie sat on the bed in the room. He approached with a glass of water, noticing her swollen eyes from crying and her pale face.
Without saying a word, he handed her the water and medicine.
She scoffed. "You must've forced me to take medicine in the past, too, am I right?"
He was stunned, feeling a jolt in his heart.
Back when they were together, he had prevented her from getting pregnant, insisting she take contraceptive pills. Unbeknownst to her, she was allergic to the medication, resulting in swelling that would only subside after two to three days.
She didn't know then that if a man truly loved someone, he would naturally treat her body as the most precious thing.
She slept in the bedroom while Daniel rested on the couch outside, monitoring anything that might happen in the room. He would summon the doctor at the slightest sign of trouble.
He was more nervous than anyone, yet he was more patient than anyone.
He knew that he had to spend the rest of his life making up for his mistake.

Maisie recovered well, and the doctor brought her medical report to Daniel.
"Looking at the data, she has recovered in all aspects. However... She had a miscarriage in the past, and it runs deep. The chance of her getting pregnant is low. She might never conceive again."
"Okay," he said, "Since that's the case, please do all you can to nurse her back to health."
