In the room, Raegan and Neil sat facing each other. They stared at the food on the table, but they did not start eating even after a long time. “Ava must have heard everything we said here that day.” Raegan broke the silence.

Neil sighed lightly. “I think so too. Ava already knew that I was her biological father at the time. She didn't say anything because she probably didn't know how to face me.”

As he spoke, Neil met Raegan's gaze guiltily. “Your relationship with Ava had turned for the better, but my appearance has made your relationship stiff again. I really don't know what to do to ease the current situation...”

“Don't blame yourself too much.” Raegan comforted him. “Ava is hard on the outside but soft on the inside. In fact, that child has a very kind heart. She usually looks like she’s carefree, but she’s extraordinarily attentive and gentle.” Raegan said with a tinge of pride on her face.

“I'm really honored to have such a sensible, kind, hard-working, and motivated daughter. It's a pity that we weren’t the ones who raised her. She gradually became the person she is now by relying on herself.”

When they were speaking about this, Raegan's eyes became slightly wet.

Neil stood up, took a tissue, and handed it to Raegan. He stretched out his hand and patted Raegan's shoulder lightly to comfort her. “Don't be sad. I believe that one day, Ava will be willing to call us her mom and dad again from her heart.”

“I hope so.” Raegan was longing for that day. As soon as she said that, the doorbell suddenly rang. Raegan did not know who was at the door. She got up and walked over to open it. When the door opened, she saw that it was Ava.

Neil, like Raegan, froze in disbelief.

Ava noticed the reactions of the two people in front of her but remained calm.

“Ava, have you eaten yet? I just made dinner, and you came just in time. The food is still warm.”

Ava looked at the dining room and nodded. “ Okay, I’m a little hungry. Let's sit down to eat and talk.”

They did not think that Ava would agree to have dinner together with them so readily. Hence, Raegan and Neil were both overjoyed.

They were pouring drinks for Ava and serving her all kinds of food. Ava did not refuse any of it. Seeing that Ava was accepting their kindness, Raegan and Neil breathed a sigh of relief. The two were thinking about a topic to talk about when they heard Ava speak.

“The reason why I came here today is that I’m taking my friend's advice,” Ava said as she put down her fork gently. “I think I should give you a chance to explain yourselves. I want to know why you abandoned me back then.” ;
