Love You Like I Used To Forget It (Millie Bridge) novel Chapter 562

It was an ordinary morning when Irvin finally woke up.

Like every other day, I opened the door to his room and planned to start off by telling him about the weather.

When Irvin's doctor had delivered a hopeless diagnosis, I hadn't wanted to accept it. But in the end, I had no choice but to accept the fact that he might never wake up.

Still, I visited Irvin every day and desperately wanted him to wake up. But no matter what I said, he remained as lifeless as ever.

Thus, I no longer came to the hospital with optimism like I had in the beginning. I also no longer expected to see Irvin awake when I pushed open his room door.

Like usual, I pessimistically entered Irvin's room, only to see him sitting up in bed and staring out the window.

I was so shocked that I thought I had to be dreaming.

Irvin had turned in the direction of the door when he heard it opening. When he saw me, he smiled and called out my name.

Even then, I was still stunned. I still believed I was dreaming.

Ever since Irvin had gotten hurt, I wished so badly for him to wake up. So I often had dreams like this moment. In my dreams, when I visited him, he would unexpectedly wake up miraculously, sit up, and greet me.

What I was seeing now mirrored those dreams exactly. That was why I couldn't snap out of my shock and was convinced that I was dreaming. And once I woke up, Irvin would still be lying lifelessly in his hospital bed.

Irvin kept calling my name. Even so, I was still frozen in shock. That was until I heard the nurse scream.

She had come in for a routine check. Irvin's doctor had declared he was in a vegetative state and would never wake up again. So, when the nurse saw him not only awake but also sitting up, she was so ecstatic that she let out a shriek. Only then did I finally jolt back to reality.

Before I could fully register what was happening, the nurse grabbed my arm and exclaimed, "The patient is awake, Ms. Quill! He's awake!"
