Love and Devotion No Longer His to Claim (Angela and Dexter) novel Chapter 190

Joseph was rushed back to the emergency room.

"Why did we bring this topic up all of a sudden?" Angela sat dejectedly in the corridor, her frustration evident.

Dexter felt the same way. He stood silently against the white wall, his gaze dark.

At that moment, they were both more worried about Joseph and didn't blame each other, resulting in an unexpected calm.

"What if Grandpa doesn't forgive us? He's always been kind to me. He was the only one in the Bamford family who treated me well, yet I kept him in the dark for far too long." Angela's bittersweet smile faded as a wave of regret washed over her, filling her with sadness and disappointment.

"There's no point in discussing this now. Or are you willing to marry me again just to please him?" Dexter shot her a cold glance.

Angela remained quiet, her reluctance evident. While she deeply appreciated Joseph and considered him family, she refused to compromise her lifelong happiness by feigning a harmonious relationship with Dexter simply to deceive Joseph.

"What happened? Why did they take him back into the emergency room?" Natalie had gotten the news and hurried over in the middle of the night.

Angela was at a loss for words, so she slightly bowed her head, allowing Dexter to take charge of the situation. He offered a brief explanation before falling silent, letting Natalie reprimand him.

Joseph was swiftly rescued this time. By the next morning, he had already left the emergency room.

However, Angela didn't dare go into his ward after he woke up. Instead, she paced outside, peeking in occasionally.

Inside, Dexter was being scolded, and Joseph seemed to have exhausted every possible word in his vocabulary that could provoke irritation while maintaining his dignity. Dexter simply looked down and kept quiet.

That afternoon, Angela and Dexter were relieved of their duties at the hospital. Upon returning home, they were pleasantly surprised to find Fiona had prepared a meal, which was rather rare.

"There's nothing we can do now. Let's eat first," she crossed her arms and instructed softly.

Although Angela wasn't particularly hungry, she found the tomato soup on the table appealing and decided to take a couple of sips. Meanwhile, Fiona served Dexter risotto, accompanied by a bowl of soup. It was an unusual move on her part.

At night, Angela tossed and turned in her bed, unable to sleep. Her mind was consumed with thoughts of what Joseph had said earlier that day.

She knew Joseph must be feeling quite down. She contemplated whether she should talk to Dexter about ways to comfort him. She was concerned that if they didn't, Joseph might slip into deeper depression, causing his condition to deteriorate.

With that thought, Angela abruptly rose from her bed. However, the next second, she felt her legs go weak, and her breaths became uneven.
