Cornelia said seriously. “You’re as important to me as they are, no one’s better than anyone else. Let’s stop asking these kinds of questions, okay? Look at me, I’m smart, I never ask you who’s more important to you, me or your grandma or Bri.” 

She didn’t really want an answer, but Marcus gave her one anyway, “I don’t know who’s more important, but I do know I can’t live without 

you.” 

Before knowing that Marcus was Jeremy and before realizing that Marcus was her husband, Cornelia had never heard Marcus speak such sweet words. 

Sometimes, this indirect kind of sweet talk hit her harder than a straight up “I love you.” 

Cornelia nestled into his chest, listening to his strong, steady heartbeat, and whispered, “I get it.” 

She wanted to drop the subject, fearing if they keep talking about it, he might say something she can’t handle. 

But Marcus wasn’t done. “You get it? You sure you don’t have anything else to say?” 

Comelia yawned, “I’m tired, gonna grab some z’s. We can chat when I wake up.” 

She had a lot to drink with Zack, and once she hit the bed, she was out like a light. 

Marcus, however, couldn’t sleep a wink. He just watched her; simply staring at her filled his empty heart with warmth. 

Perhaps due to not getting enough sleep last night or the effects of drinking at noon, Cornelia’s nap turned into a four hour sleep, and she didn’t wake up until 6 pm. 

When she woke up, Marcus was nowhere to be seen, she thought he had gone home, so she got up and walked out of the bedroom, hair all tousled. 

She didn’t expect to see him on the phone in the living room, his voice so low she couldn’t hear a thing, but she could tell he wasn’t happy. 

She wanted to eavesdrop, but right then her phone rang. She hurried back to her room to pick up. 

It was Ben, who never called her on his day off. Something must’ve happened. 

As soon as she picked up, Ben sounded anxious, “Cornelia, something has happened, have you heard?” 

Cornelia instinctively glanced at Marcus through the door, “What happened?” 

“You haven’t watched the news?” Ben asked. 

“I just woke up from a nap,” Cornelia said. 

“I heard someone leaked some private photos of you and an older man, claimed you tried to seduce your neighbor during the summer of your sophomore year, and got caught by his wife. There are not only photos, but also news coverage in Rosenberg. The whole internet is blowing up over this. Go check online,” Ben said. 

Cornelia immediately opened the news website she frequently browsed, but everything seemed normal, no sign of anything Ben mentioned, “Ben, where did you see this?” 

“It’s everywhere. They’re even pushing the news notifications on the phone. The title is very catchy, and it even mentioned the Hartley Group, calling it the Hartley Group President’s Assistant Scandal. In several of the company colleagues‘ groups I’m in, this news has also been forwarded like crazy.” 

Cornelia was in a few company groups as well, but they were eerily quiet, with no one chatting, she wasn’t sure if it was because she 

was in them. 

“Maybe they’re not sharing the links in the groups I’m in because I’m there. You can forward them to me,” Comelia suggested. 

“The photos are not pretty, you might not want to see them,” Ben said.
