Her Husband's Secret Affair novel Chapter 46

Chapter 46

“You don’t get it, do you?” Adam’s voice was sharp, his eyes filled with anger. He was just about to lunge at Alex again when the guards intervened, stepping between them, their large bodies holding him back.

Sophie’s heart raced, but she stayed where she was, trying to remain calm. She wasn’t going to let this turn into something worse.

“Enough!” Sophie’s voice was steady, but the trembling of her hands betrayed her. “Adam, leave. Now.”

But Adam wasn’t done. He pushed against the guards with force. “I’m not leaving until she hears the truth.”

Alex stepped forward, blocking Adam’s path. His tone was low, a warning growling beneath his words. “You need to leave now, or I will make you leave.”

Sophie’s breath hitched in her chest. She didn’t want to hear any more. She just wanted this to end. “Please, Adam. Just go.”

Adam’s eyes darkened, and he took a step closer, his gaze flicking to Alex before returning to Sophie. “You want to know the truth, Sophie? Fine. Let me tell you.” He raised his voice, and Sophie’s heart skipped a beat as he spat the words out. “The real reason Alex is so upset is because I won the bet, and I broke his sister’s heart.”

Sophie froze. What? She looked at Alex, confusion written all over her face. “Bet? What bet? What is he talking about?”

Alex’s jaw clenched, his eyes narrowing dangerously at Adam. “Shut up, Adam. Don’t you dare—”

But Adam wasn’t done. “Oh, I’m daring, alright.” His voice rose, and he threw a glance at Sophie, his expression full of defiance. “Alex thought you would never go for me, Sophie. That’s why he made a bet with me. A bet that you would never date me, that you’d always be out of my league. But I won, didn’t I?” He looked at Alex, smirking. “I won the bet. You lost, and now you’re angry. You’re angry because your sister’s heart got broken, and it was my fault.”

Sophie’s eyes widened, her pulse quickening as the words hit her like a slap across the face. A bet? Alex made a bet with Adam?

“No,” Sophie whispered, shaking her head. “That’s not possible.”

Alex immediately took a step toward her, reaching out to explain, but Sophie took a few steps back, her hand raised to stop him. “Is it true?” she demanded, her voice trembling with hurt and confusion.

Alex’s face tightened, his eyes flicking between her and Adam. He wasn’t going to let Adam win this. He wasn’t going to let him twist the truth. But he saw Sophie’s face fall, and for the first time in a long time, he felt completely helpless.

“Alex?” Sophie’s voice cracked. “Please tell me it’s not true.”

Adam laughed, a bitter sound that filled the space between them. “It’s true. Alex made a bet with me. He didn’t think you’d ever fall for me, but I proved him wrong.”

But Adam stood his ground. “I’m not the one who hurt her, Alex. You are. You’ve been playing games with her emotions, and now she’s the one who has to pay the price.”

Sophie’s head spun as she took a step back, her heart a tangled mess of emotions. She couldn’t believe what she was hearing. She turned on her heel, desperate to escape. “I can’t do this,” she muttered, her voice barely above a whisper. “I can’t.”

“Sophie—!” Alex called, but she was already rushing towards the gate.

Her thoughts were a blur as she pushed through the gates, her mind struggling to make sense of everything. She had to get away. She had to think. She needed to process this all on her own.

As the gate closed behind her, Alex turned to Adam with a growl of frustration.

“Let the game begin,” Alex said, his voice cold and full of contempt.

Adam smirked, eyes gleaming with a mixture of triumph and malice. “Oh, it’s already begun, Alex. And you don’t even know what’s coming.”

With that, Adam turned and walked away, leaving Alex to stand there, seething with anger and regret.
