Shannon answered, "You never left."
Caleb's eyelids trembled, and after a while, he turned to Scott and asked, "What month is it now?"
Scott widened his eyes again and looked at Shannon. "Oh, no, Shannon. I think he's lost his mind from the dream."
She remained unfazed and only stared at Caleb briefly before confidently stating, "His soul is intact. He hasn't gone mad."
The corner of Caleb's lips twitched, and his hazy mind slowly regained clarity. He struggled to prop himself up and felt like his body had rested for three full days.
After repeating his question from earlier, he finally learned that Shannon's birthday was in two days. Immediately, he fell into a trance. So… did that mean everything he experienced was just a dream? Why did the dream feel so real, then?
At that, Shannon no longer hid the truth and removed the talisman stuck on his blanket, confessing, "Everything you've experienced in your dreams was a dream I created for you."
Before Caleb could react, she continued, "Although it's just a dream, the majority of it is the truth. You're indeed the victim of the Art of Fate-Swapping, and Ziva indeed schemed against you. Of course, if you still refuse to believe—"
"I believe you." His hoarse voice interrupted her.
When he looked at her, his eyes were tinged with red. He seemed ready to confront her but hesitated, afraid that raising his voice might shatter the fragile reality he was in and toss him back into the dream.
As such, he suppressed the turbulence of emotions within him and employed the calmest voice ever, asking, "But why didn't you just help me instead?"
Shannon gazed at him with slightly raised brows. "Why should I?"
Scott was surprised by Caleb's reaction. After confirming no strange emotions on his face, he hesitatingly exited the room. Once the door closed, he saw Shannon standing outside the room.
Before he could ask anything, she pointed toward the room and gestured at him to be quiet. Initially confused, he then heard a series of suppressed sobs coming from the room. He widened his eyes in utter disbelief.
Was Caleb crying? He was unsure and decided to listen closely again.
He pressed his ear to the door and heard clear sounds of weeping. It started as suppressed sobs, then gradually turned into wailing.
Scott was dumbfounded and looked shockingly at Shannon. He had never seen Caleb cry for as long as he could remember. Just what kind of dream did she put him in? Not only did he wake up from it weeping, but he was even full-on howling now.
That… was freaky.
