Another week passed, and Caleb could noticeably feel the changes in himself. Not only did his taste in food and fashion change drastically, but he also felt a shift in his face whenever he looked in the mirror.
It was especially glaring on the day he met up with his childhood friend. He had a meeting planned to discuss investment opportunities with a few other acquaintances.
When he entered the private room, what should've been a warm greeting quickly turned into a series of confused, uncertain stares shot at him. His childhood friend questioned him, "Who the hell are you?"
Caleb's sense of reality crumbled at that moment. He could easily convince himself that the subtle changes happening within him were just a misconception. Still, he couldn't dismiss the foreign, strange gazes from those around him lately as mere illusions.
He instinctively thought to seek Shannon, who would definitely detect the issue he was facing. However, he still had no way to contact her. Besides, she rarely replied in the family group chat. Hence, he could only find Scott.

His theory sparked when Shannon asked if he had ever been injured before Ziva.
Scott's expression turned solemn at his words. "That'll cause a great problem."
He continued, "As Shannon has said, mystic masters usually cast a spell using the other party's blood or hair. Some evil masters can even cast a curse on you if they acquire your blood or hair. Getting sick or having your fortune changed is minor. What's more calamitous is when…"
With hands on his hips, he huffed and left exasperatedly, ending his exit with a slam on the door.
Having been shut out, Caleb was rather gloomy. "When did I even say that… You didn't let me finish and misjudged me…"
He wouldn't have sought Shannon at first thought if he truly believed that. Since he couldn't contact her, he could only leave dejectedly and think of other solutions.
Unbeknownst to him, it wasn't until he left that Scott withdrew his ear from the door and returned to his gaming room to video-call Shannon.
Unlike her communication with Caleb, Shannon promptly answered Scott's call. She sat before a workstation, sipped on some milkshake, and appeared rather idle before the camera. His eyes lit up when he saw her…
