As the thought crossed Shannon's mind, she glanced at the tortoise resting nearby.
It was all the system's fault. Lately, it felt like everyone around her aspired to be deities, but Ziva was indeed a problem.
Triston later interrogated the player who'd rushed out of the barrier and caused chaos, and the player confessed that someone had told him escaping was the only way to survive. He'd done as told.
When Shannon heard that, Ziva had been the first to come to mind. She was the only one among the players who could manipulate others like that. She was like a ticking time bomb that could explode at just any moment.
Shannon was lost in thought when Scott's voice pulled her back to reality. "I don't get why Caleb listens to Ziva that much. Could it be that she now has a nice voice?"
Shannon's heart skipped a beat at the last comment. She asked, "Has Ziva's voice gotten better?"
"Yeah, I overheard her calling Caleb. Her voice doesn't sound harsh like before…."
He hesitated, then mumbled, "Actually, it kinda sounds like Cecily's voice."
A fleeting thought flashed in Shannon's mind, but it soon vanished. Still, one thing was clear—Ziva's sudden voice recovery wasn't normal.
After learning about her power of words, Shannon studied it in detail.
The power of words was without limits. The more Ziva used it, the weaker her abilities would be. A primary symptom of this was her deteriorating voice.
When Shannon had first heard Ziva's voice, she knew the latter wasn't born with a hoarse voice, and it wasn't a result of illness either. It was the cost of overusing her powers.
If left unchecked, Ziva might lose her voice one day, and that would mean she would lose her power of words.
He paused, then added, "We're the reason Camryn is targeted by the Jensens. Your family must hate me now."
Dixie retorted, "He got arrested because he incited someone to take their lives. What does that have to do with us?"
She was visibly aggrieved. "It's clearly his fault, but my parents blame me instead. I've always known they favor Camryn and pay little attention to me…
"And now, they're only willing to cover half of the two-million-dollar compensation."
Luther's eyes flashed with anxiousness to hear that. Just as he was about to ask more, Dixie continued, "But it's fine. I've figured out how to cover the remaining million."
Then, she opened her bag as if presenting a treasure. "Look, I secretly took my mother's jewelry collection. We'll have money once we sell it!"
