After confirming the root cause, Shannon set up a meeting with Zeno and went to the agreed-upon location the next day.
She brought Lexie and Heston along since both of them were free. It was considered a Special Security Agency mission.
But just as they stepped outside, they ran into Benjamin, who'd just stepped out next door. He clearly knew about her meeting with Zeno.
He stepped forward and said, "I'll go with you."
Shannon looked at him and didn't answer immediately. She simply said, "You tagged along yesterday because it was a livestream for the variety show. Today, I have Lexie and Heston."
Her words implied Benjamin wasn't needed.
Lexie was utterly baffled. Had she made a mistake by coming along?
Benjamin acted like he didn't see Lexie and Heston. He locked his firm gaze on Shannon and seriously reminded her, "They're recording today, and I want to go." He'd overheard her talking to Hebrew.
Shannon felt a slight ripple in her heart, but her expression remained the same. "Suit yourself."
The four left the Demon District and got into a luxury van parked outside. After getting in, they drove straight to a private courtyard on the outskirts of town.
When they arrived, Zeno, Faye, and the production crew were already there.
Perhaps because she couldn't see Archie, Faye looked haggard but surely more clear-headed today. Shannon looked at her and asked, "How do you feel about Archie right now?"
Faye's eyelashes fluttered. There was a shame and conflicted flush on her face as she said, "I... miss him. I want to see him."
She knew the truth, and her rationality kept reminding her Zeno was the one she loved. Yet, her mind couldn't stop recalling Archie's face.
Though Zeno wasn't a mystic master, hearing that Faye had married men from the Darkenshade clan for six lifetimes gave him chills.
This wasn't some romantic fairytale about the fated love of seven lifetimes. Even if it were, why would every single husband be from the same family, but never the same person?
His face turned grim. So, was this Faye's curse?
Faye seemed shaken too as she murmured, "Is this really fate?"
Shannon looked at her and replied in a firm voice, "It isn't. It is a dark arts technique which traps your soul within the same family for eternity."
At first, she thought Archie was the problem. But now, it seemed the real suspect was the Drakenshade clan.
If they wanted to break Faye's curse, they had to find the true source.
