Shannon was willing to give Benjamin one more chance and nothing more.
She would wait, but she'd no longer chase after him the way she used to, for fear that he'd leave if she didn't.
Benjamin could easily read her intent from her eyes. For some reason, he couldn't tell what he was feeling.
When he confirmed that the "someone" she referred to was his Soul, he felt a fleeting illusion that his heart was on the verge of birthing demons.
At that instant, his fingertips clenched slightly, and golden light flickered chaotically in his palm.
Suddenly, a crisp crack snapped him back to reality. The three of them along with the cameraman turned toward the source of the sound.
The vendor was just about to chide him for breaking her egg when she froze. In Benjamin's palm, the eggshell was cracking apart. Two chirps followed.
Everything watched as a tiny chick emerged from the egg in Benjamin's hand.
The vendor's questioning tone came to an abrupt stop, and her words took a sharp turn. "See? Didn't I tell you my eggs have souls?"
Shannon and Benjamin were utterly baffled. She glanced at him and suspected the chick had hatched because he was the Dragon Vein.
Worried that his golden light might affect the rest of the eggs, she quickly reached out and took the chick from him to return it to the vendor.
"Here's the soul. I'll just take the ones I picked." She handed over the eggs she'd chosen.
Benjamin lowered his gaze and watched as the tiny chick along with its eggshell was taken away. Scanning his fingertips, he laughed.
For that briefest moment, he'd actually felt jealous of his Soul.
Something inside him cracked along with that eggshell, and a deep powerlessness settled in. It was a feeling of not being able to reach the person standing right beside him.
Meanwhile, as Archie carried Faye away, Eira followed closely behind. The three of them soon disappeared from view.
After Shannon paid for her eggs, she looked toward Zeno who was left behind. For a tall man, he stood by the side of the road with a slightly hunched posture, looking as lost and helpless as a dog abandoned by its owner.
"Aren't you going after them? Isn't she your girlfriend?" she asked.
Zeno expressionlessly replied, "As long as she's fine, I'm okay."
Then as if something suddenly crossed his mind, he looked at Shannon. His gaze was a mix of conflict and hope as he probed, "Ms. Jensen, why did you join this show?"
Again. Shannon had answered the same question twice, but as she met his eyes, there was not the slightest trace of impatience.
Instead, she calmly repeated her answer. "I already said I promised Ms. Green to be a guest for one episode."
