Shannon looked at Caelan, who refused to admit his mistakes, and asked, "Do you really think gaining power comes without cost?"
Caelan remained silent while Shannon continued, "Though I don't know what the true nature of the putrefaction is, from what I've seen, the process of putrefying a demon's supernatural energy can unleash immense power, but it consumes the demon's life force."
She asked, "Are you sure you don't feel anything? While you were chasing the so-called strength, your supernatural powers and lifespan have been eroded by more than half."
At those words, the arrogance on Caelan's face cracked. His pupils trembled as he stared at Shannon and gritted his teeth, refusing to believe the truth.
"You're just trying to scare me. I don't believe it!"
Shannon stared down at him with a calm and indifferent expression. "Did you forget that I originally studied mystic arts? Divination and face-reading are my specialties, and from your face, I can tell your lifespan has been shortened by at least half.
"And for the demons you helped putrefy, their lifespans have also been shortened after the ordeal. Caelan, do you still think you did nothing wrong?"
Caelan's eyes widened in shock. His pupils quivered violently as his eyes reddened.
For the first time, his composed facade shattered into pure panic. He mumbled, "No… No way… I never meant for that to happen.
"They never said that'd happen… They lied to me… I never wanted to harm the entire demon clan… I never…"
Caelan was an underage demon, after all. Unable to hold it in any longer, he broke down and wailed loudly.
But Bianca had no patience for his breakdown. She handed him over to the Demon Control Agency and quickly caught up to Shannon.
Her voice filled with barely concealed worry as she asked, "Shannon, was what you said true? Even if these demons recover, their lifespans have already been affected?"
So, she'd indeed been bluffing just now. She found it annoying that he acted like he did nothing wrong after causing this much trouble.
Bianca's eyes widened in disbelief. She'd never expected Shannon to be someone like that.
More importantly, she'd looked so serious that there hadn't been a single hint of a lie in her expression.
Bianca had just used physical violence to discipline Caelan, but Shannon had gone straight for a psychological attack.
Bianca had never seen Caelan crying his eyes out like he just did, and as she looked at Shannon again, her perspective on the latter changed.
No wonder Shannon was a demon with three-quarters human blood in her. That was just terrifying!
