As Verus took the Zenyoistone into his palm, a stream of warm power enveloped him.
It was different from the sensation he'd felt when Benjamin had touched him earlier, but there was a vague similarity between the two.
That was when he realized why he'd failed to steal Gunner's fans. The Zenyoistone contained power that could dispel misfortune. Yet, the power did not reject him though he was an oceanid.
Verus carefully examined the Zenyoistone and sensed its energy before glancing at Shiloh. After a brief internal struggle, he asked, "Do you know what this Zenyoistone does?"
Shiloh was utterly baffled.
Seeing her expression, Verus realized she didn't know, so he earnestly explained the Zenyoistone's abilities to her.
Simply put, the Zenyoistone was imbued with the powers of Zenyoism and was capable of warding off calamity and bringing fortune.
"If you keep it, you'll be protected if you ever find yourself in danger again."
He looked at Shiloh seriously and asked, "This is a powerful treasure. Are you sure you want to give it away?"
Verus did want the Zenyoistone, but knowing it was an extremely rare and valuable object, he couldn't just feign ignorance and take advantage of her generosity.
That would be unfair, and he wasn't someone who'd do that.
His sincere question startled Shiloh for a moment.
Upon hearing his words, both Shannon and Benjamin turned to look at him, and their eyes carried a touch of admiration.
The legends claimed demons to be inherently cunning, but that was merely a stereotype born from encounters with evil demons.
Perhaps it was because some people had suffered harm at the hands of evil demons, or perhaps it was the extraordinary strength of demons that made them objects of fear, but humans often feared the unknown.
Her grandfather's generation had acquired the Zenyoistone from an unknown source.
When she'd been looking for a way to repay Gunner's life-saving deed, she'd given it away as a token of gratitude without thinking much about it. She hadn't known the Zenyoistone was this powerful.
Had she known from the beginning, she might've hesitated to part with it, but now…
Shiloh seriously thought about it. Then, she looked back at Verus and said, "I told you I'm giving it to you, so it's yours. The Olsen family doesn't go back on its word. Plus…"
After a brief pause, she continued, "My grandfather's teachings have always reminded us that things turn into opposites when they reach their extremes. No one can ever hoard all the benefits that exist.
"Our family owns wealth and power beyond what an ordinary person could dream of in ten lifetimes. If we remain unsatisfied, we'll never be satisfied, and we may even lose what we now have.
"Since you said the Zenyoistone is powerful, it'll be useful to you too. That means I didn't choose the wrong gift."
