Heiress Unmasked: Shaking the World With Geomancy novel Chapter 1714

Verus' sudden remark caught Anton, Gunner, and the others off guard.

Gunner was especially dumbfounded. "Who said anything about killing you? I talked about killing that… demon."

As he uttered the last word, realization dawned on him. His gaze snapped to Verus, and horror crept into his expression.

"Y-You're that d-demon…"

Gunner had no idea Shannon had been using "ghosts and demons" as a general term, but to him, both demons and ghosts were terrifying enough.

Now, as he looked at Verus, he couldn't help feeling an eerie chilling presence surrounding the latter.

His first instinct was to run, but Shannon seemed to have anticipated his reaction. A talisman flew onto the ground beneath him and glued his feet to the floor to stop him from moving another inch.

Panic surged in his eyes as he turned to Shannon and gasped in understanding. "You knew he was the demon all along! You two are working together!"

His eyes burned with resentment. All he wanted was to report Shannon to the Special Security Agency right now.

At first, Anton was just as confused as everyone else. But as realization set in, his head snapped toward Verus. "What does that mean? He stole your opportunity?"

Verus wasn't entirely sure either. He hesitated before responding with uncertainty, "I think so?"

After all, he'd felt a surge of malice from Gunner when the latter talked about killing the demon he'd stolen the opportunity from.

Anton fell silent for a moment before turning to Shannon. "Ms. Jensen, what exactly is going on?"

Before Shannon could reply, Gunner's assistant spotted someone in the distance. As if seeing a lifeline, he frantically waved at the approaching figure for help.

"Ms. Olsen! Ms. Olsen, please help Gunner!"

He wasn't entirely sure what was happening, but as Gunner's assistant, he had some suspicions upon learning the latter had stolen something.

And those suspicions happened to involve the woman approaching with her bodyguards, Shiloh Olsen.

Once she finished, Shannon didn't respond immediately. Instead, she turned to Verus and Anton to address their previous question.

"Well, since everyone's here, I might as well explain."

She paused briefly and asked, "Have you ever heard of the Tale of the Merman?"

The group exchanged puzzled glances, while Anton instantly turned to look at Verus beside him. Instead of a tale, it seemed Shannon was about to illustrate a real-life story.

"The merman longed to live on land. One day, he rescued a princess in the sea and brought her back to shore. But when the princess woke up, she mistakenly believed another man was her savior…"

As Shannon calmly told the tale, the expressions on several faces changed, especially Gunner and Shiloh. They couldn't shake the feeling that Shannon was implying something.

Anton was the first to put the pieces together. His eyes widened as he looked at Shannon and then at Shiloh.

"Ms. Jensen, you're not saying that she…"
