"Where's my body? It was right here…"
Bryan stared at a certain spot outside the wall, his soul wavering. Flustered, he mumbled to himself and threw a tantrum again. "My body has disappeared! Who did this? Who stole my body? How am I going to be buried without my body?"
Seeing him still chattering away, Shannon was about to take matters into her own hands and shut him up, but the system acted faster than she could.
It flew out and, with a swift flick of its tail, slapped his soul across the face. "Shut up! You're disturbing my peace!"
Benjamin looked at the sudden appearance of the alligator snapping turtle. In his memory, Shannon did have a tortoise as the system, but that one didn't look like this.
Seeing his gaze sweep over, she seemed to know what he was thinking and took the initiative to say, "Albany—this is its new chosen form."
After Albany had just finished dealing with Bryan, it heard Shannon introducing it and immediately puffed over to Benjamin with the help of the black smoke, positioning itself in the most flattering angle of its new host form.
At the same time, it grumbled to Shannon, "Had I known he was the Dragon Vein, I wouldn't have asked him to be my host body! No wonder his fortune was so difficult to tap into."
Having gotten used to the system communicating exclusively to her, she didn't respond to it but was surprised the next second when Benjamin piped up.
He looked at Albany and questioned, "You wanted me to be your host body?"
Immediately, Shannon and Albany were stunned. She cocked her head at Benjamin and asked, "You can hear it talk?"
"Who? Who's talking? The ghost?" Kai was confused.
Benjamin paused for a moment, his mind drifting back through the years, and it clicked.
He remembered that the system's voice had always been audible only to Shannon, never to him, even though he had once been close to her. He pondered for a second, and it didn't take long for him to understand the reason behind it.
"The system was a being from the alternate world, and I couldn't hear it at first."
"He can no longer pose any threat to you, but his body has gone missing, and it's highly unlikely we'll find it. As his family, you can apply to have him declared dead.
"If you're worried that your family won't accept it, you can take this for now. I'll have a Mystic employee come by to collect him and take him to the underworld later."
Tobias hesitated for a moment when he heard Shannon's words, his hand stopping mid-reach for the burrito before quickly retracting.
"Could you… handle it for me, please? I don't want to take him with me." His face turned bitter as he continued, "If possible, could you have the police declare his death directly? I don't think it's appropriate for me to do it…"
Without a body, he could already imagine how his father and stepmother would react if he were the one to apply for it.
They would suspect he had killed Bryan and wouldn't believe his death was real. Instead, they would accuse him of cursing his brother to die…
They always seemed to interpret his actions with the worst possible intentions.
