Shannon wasn't surprised to see Cornelius and Biana shake their heads. She'd always been able to see colors on certain people that others couldn't.
For example, the golden light surrounding Benjamin and the colors of all supernatural energy.
When she saw the black, murky supernatural energy dissipating earlier, she'd assumed it was something visible to everyone, like black smoke.
Benjamin continued watching her. From what he remembered, Shannon's eyes had always been able to perceive things ordinary people couldn't.
Unlike those born with spirit sight, her eyes saw what went deeper beyond the surface.
The old Benjamin had never paid much attention to this fact. But now, it seemed the secrets Shannon carried weren't as simple as he'd once thought.
Sensing his gaze, Shannon turned to look at him. As their eyes met, Benjamin's golden light flickered as he calmly withdrew his gaze.
"My men will handle the rest of the stuff. Your mission ends here, so you can go back now."
The scheme lurking behind the putrefaction was no small matter. Neither he nor the Demon Control Agency would allow these juvenile demons to get involved.
This time had been nothing more than just an accident.
After dismissing them, Benjamin turned to leave when Shannon grabbed his arm.
He looked down at the slender fingers wrapped around his arm, and his gaze darkened slightly. Somewhere deep in his mind, a black-and-white figure surfaced, and the color of its fingertips seemed to brighten slightly.
He forgot to pull away as she said, "Their mission might be over, but I want to be involved in the rest of this."
Benjamin gazed into her clear eyes and didn't reject her outright. Instead, he said, "Give me a reason."
They all came on this mission together, so why was Shannon leaving them behind to take on a task that was clearly more challenging? Did she not see them as teammates?
Both Cornelius and Bianca wanted to join too, but they lacked a valid excuse, unlike Shannon. On top of that, they weren't even agents of the Demon Control Agency.
Bianca was still scrambling for a reason to argue her way in when Cornelius spoke up, "That puppy demon was one of our mission targets. Even if there were unexpected changes in his condition, we should see this through to the end."
Bianca's eyes lit up, and she immediately chimed in, "Yes, exactly!" This was their mission, so who said they had to walk away just because someone else told them to?
Benjamin wasn't interested in what the two of them were planning, but unlike with Shannon, he didn't reject them outright or agree. Instead, he said, "You can ask Reuben about it. He'll give you the answer."
With that, he turned to leave once more.
Shannon thought about it before following, only to have Benjamin glance at her with a calm expression.
