"I'm top."
Shannon wasn't sure how to respond, while Thalia warily pulled her back. "We're not interested in your sexual orientation!"
Xylon's expression froze briefly before he quickly clarified, "You've misunderstood, Ms. Wynthorpe. I'm saying I'm the top agent, Agent No. 1 from the Demon Control Agency."
To be precise, he was the original owner of the mission specialist account.
Shannon figured out what he meant the moment he mentioned "No.", but she wasn't particularly concerned about who was behind the account. She'd blocked that account anyway.
…
Thalia, Shannon, and Albany got into the car. Xylon took the driver's seat and drove them straight to a traditional Crisean-style villa on the outskirts of Jamborough.
"According to Mr. Wright, he'd like Mr. Wynthorpe to meet with the clan since you've returned."
Thalia had no objections. She'd made this trip with Shannon to formalize the latter's identity and back her up in some way.
After all, she hadn't been treated well in the clan as a half-demon. Not to mention Shannon, who was just a one-quarter demon.
Just thinking about it irritated her, and seeing the villa in front of her annoyed her further.
Ugh. She wanted to take Shannon back to Seastone.
The thought flickered in her mind and soon disappeared. She knew Shannon would never agree to that.
…
The car stopped at the entrance of the villa.
Instead of getting out, Xylon said, "The Wynthorpe family's territory doesn't allow outsiders or other demons to enter. I won't send you in."
"Shannon, stop!" Thalia shouted. But restrained fox tails seemed enraged and whipped around to lash toward Shannon instead.
With one hand still holding the spiritual chains, Shannon reached into her sleeve to pull out a fire talisman.
After hesitating briefly, she put the fire talisman away and pulled out a different talisman to toss it out.
The talisman morphed into a wind blade slashing toward the most beautiful fox tail. But before they could come in contact, the fox tails posing for attack flinched. Then, they shifted at the last second and dodged the incoming blade.
Yet, the wind blade had a wide range, and there were too many tails. As they whipped around, one of the red fox fur got nicked by the blade and drifted slowly to the ground.
Thalia watched the single red fox fur fall, and an ominous feeling crept up. Her eyes widened at the realization that they'd just created big trouble.
Sure enough, the seven fire-red fox tails retreated inside.
A second later, a woman's furious voice erupted from within the villa. "Thalia Wynthorpe!"
