Sylvia, whose consciousness was clung onto, struggled powerlessly. Her faceless visage twisted with a faint trace of agony.
As soon as the Mini Stone Turtle's consciousness entered Sylvia's dream, it was instantly wrapped in a suffocating force of almost tangible force of despair and fear closing in from all directions.
Had it been one of the ghosts from the Dark Mountain, they would've been devoured the moment they came into contact with the dreams.
But the Mini Stone Turtle lifted its deep wise eyes and opened its mouth to roar.
A thunderous bellow erupted and rippled outward in waves to shatter the oppressive forces rushing toward it. Steady and unfazed, the Mini Stone Turtle stepped forward into the abyssal dreamscape.
Then, its steps halted. The endless darkness before it shifted and revealed a mourning hall.
A young girl knelt alone before the memorial tablets of her parents, and her frail body trembled with each miserable sob.
But when she lifted her head, her face was blank and devoid of features.
The Mini Stone Turtle stared at her for two seconds before stepping around her to continue deeper. Just as it took a few steps forward, the girl stood in its path once more.
This time, they were in a dimly lit basement, where her adoptive father led her down step by step.
As the scene shifted, the girl knelt on the ground, filthy and broken. A cold metal chain was looped around her neck.
The man approached her step by step.
The Mini Stone Turtle's fury erupted. It let out a deafening roar, and with a swift forceful twist of its body, its thick powerful tail lashed out like a crocodile's to strike the man in the dream.
The scene shattered. The Mini Stone Turtle took another step forward to enter a different dream.
Skylar had been present when Shannon and Thalia had performed the reverting spell. Upon hearing the question, he answered, "Right after the spell wore off.
"We knew the technique would only last ten minutes, but Sylvia was really happy after regaining her face. She wanted to video call Isolde so the latter could hear her voice…"
Skylar trailed off mid-sentence. Then, his eyes widened in realization. "She fell asleep immediately after making that call. And that was when the spell disappeared!"
Benjamin, who had been listening, suddenly spoke. "Dreambeast's true self can pull its host into a dream, but it often requires a trigger."
"Are you saying that Isolde is the trigger?"
Before Skylar could process what that meant, a cold male voice suddenly sounded from the stairs leading to the basement. "You're right. That trigger was Isolde's death."
