The Plague-Banishing Decree had always carried annihilating power. Now infused with two powerful spiritual energies and golden light, each syllable of the spell carried immense power.
As the spell unfolded, mystic symbols surged from the two and crashed into the surrounding bloody smoke like a violent tide.
The bloody smoke was forcefully pushed back to reveal a clear path as the mystic symbols hurled straight toward Scarlett.
Scarlett narrowed her eyes, and her hand flashed to form intricate mudras. A dense mass of bloody smoke condensed before her to form a powerful barrier that held the incoming spiritual tide at bay.
Shannon and Thalia remained unfazed. In the midst of this fierce struggle, a thought crossed Shannon's mind.
She turned sharply to Tortoise the System and instructed, "System, launch the Smoke Tornado."
Tortoise the System perked up at hearing its cue. With a whoosh, it soared into the air and sent a black smoke tornado whipping toward Scarlett once more.
Shannon and Thalia exchanged a glance before making their move. Then, they sent another swirl of spiritual tide pouring into the tornado.
In an instant, the golden light tornado infused with Plague-Banishing Decree ripped through Scarlett's defenses and drowned her whole.
Scarlett let out a sharp cry as was caught off guard as the plague-banishing spiritual tide pierced through her chest. The bloody smoke at the impact site dispersed to reveal a gaping bloody hole in her chest.
Scarlett desperately summoned more black smoke to seal the wound. But the black smoke trembled and faltered before failing to cover the hole completely.
Scarlett gritted her teeth, and her eyes flashed with hatred as she glared at Thalia. With a final wave of black smoke, she vanished into the shadows and took Adeela with her.
"She got away again!" Thalia cursed under her breath.
But she made no move to chase knowing Scarlett wouldn't die so easily. Eighteen years in the alternate world had taught her that much.
Instead of dwelling on Scarlett's escape, Thalia turned to Tortoise the System and raised an eyebrow. "This tortoise has got something."
The remaining bloody smoke soon dissipated alongside Ghost Mist Organization's hanging black smoke.
It was only now that Shannon turned her attention back to the bloody smoke-eroded Maya. Her face and neck were covered in red splotches, while her body lay slumped on the ground and barely clung to life.
Yet with what little strength she had left, she reached toward Shannon. "Save me… Shannon… Save me…"
For the first time, she felt the chilling certainty of death. She looked at Shannon with resentment filling her bloodshot eyes.
Though she'd never liked Shannon and knew the latter wasn't human, she knew Shannon was the only one who could save her.
She didn't want to die. She didn't want to; not like this.
Shannon stood some distance away as she gazed down at Maya. There was no trace of emotion in her eyes.
