However, before Shannon could dial 911, the phone signal was clearly being jammed.
The next moment, a few rustling sounds echoed around them. As the group looked up, they saw their car surrounded by several rough-looking individuals, all dressed like street thugs.
The thug at the front kicked the front of the car hard, his face twisted into a vicious snarl. "Get out of the car, now! You think you can call the cops here? Do you know whose territory you're on?"
The kick was strong enough that it could be heard echoing in the night, yet the luxury seven-seater remained perfectly still, unshaken. Still, the sight of the dirty mark left on the car caused Zane's brow to furrow involuntarily.
That was his car. It got dirty.
The driver, a former soldier personally arranged by Benjamin, reacted instantly. He yanked the steering wheel, attempting to break through and push past the thugs blocking their path.
But before he could make it even a few feet, two old vehicles came barreling down the rear lane, completely cutting off their escape.
Now, there was no way out.
Inside the car, Shannon exchanged glances with the others. After a brief pause, they all silently decided to comply with the thugs' demands. Slowly, they began to get out of the vehicle.
As they stepped out, the thugs took note of their attire. Apart from the burly driver, the rest of them were all well-dressed with an air of elegance about them. They clearly didn't look like they were the type to engage in any physical confrontation.
The one who had kicked the vehicle earlier furrowed his brow, questioning the group, "Where did you guys come from?"
They didn't look like the police, especially since there was a young lady among them.
No matter who these people were, there was no way they were letting the group leave the moment they overheard the woman mention calling the police.
Five minutes later, Shannon and the others were escorted into the back room of the warehouse. As Benjamin had predicted, it turned out to be an underground casino.
Outside, the warehouse was filled with stacks of cargo like any other abandoned industrial site. But connected to another building was a space that had been converted into a large, bustling area.
One of the goons couldn't help but look at Shannon. Since it was too dark outside earlier, he couldn't see her clearly. Now that she was under the light, she looked somewhat familiar.
"Boss, I think I've seen her before." He couldn't quite place where, but it seemed like he had come across her face on his phone.
Benjamin immediately stepped in front of Shannon when he noticed the others staring at her, blocking their disgusting gazes. He then glanced at Skylar with some impatience. "Are you sure she's here?"
Skylar unexpectedly pulled out the divination compass before everyone. He first glanced around as if no one was there, then said with firm certainty, "She's here."
His movements were so fast that no one inside the room could see where he had pulled the item from. When they finally noticed the divination compass in his hand, the henchman's mind seemed to suddenly snap with realization.
Before he could think further, Shannon had poked her head out from behind Benjamin, holding a stack of talismans in her hand.
Her tone remained as calm as ever, with no hint of disturbance. "Well then, let's take care of the unnecessary ones first."
