When the group arrived, they saw from afar at the village entrance that the spot where Shannon's group had previously disappeared stirred up with a water vortex.
A tall man, his body charred black, staggered out of the vortex, carrying two people in his arms, with a tortoise hanging from his side. He stumbled, falling to the ground in a rather disheveled state.
Moments later, the vortex vanished, and the Emeralda Stone dropped to the ground.
Benjamin darted forward and caught Shannon in his arms while everyone else was still in a daze. Faintly, she could see a familiar golden light approaching her.
Golden light surrounded her, and as she felt the strength in his arms, she instinctively reached out and wrapped her arms around him. "I'm back, Benjamin."
She seemed overwhelmed by exhaustion, her eyes fluttering shut once she finished speaking. She let herself lean against his shoulder, slipping into a deep, heavy sleep.
Adam and Hector's reactions were delayed. As they were about to examine Shannon's situation, they suddenly halted as their eyes landed on the person with a strange appearance.
Adam stood frozen in place, rarely losing his composure. He simply stared at the woman with the white hair and fox tail.
Thalia, too, was worried about Shannon's condition. At that moment, she felt a sensation, turned around, and saw a face she knew like the back of her hand. That was the person she would sneak to look at once every few days.
She knew every line on his face, carved by the passing years, and she had felt the growing coldness and restraint in his demeanor. She watched him, imagining what he would look like as he grew older.
Before her stood the same person, the same face, yet… The feeling he gave her was entirely different. That was her husband, for goodness' sake. And Hector, who stood beside him, was her son…
Her nose tingled with the sharp sting of unshed tears. She instinctively wanted to speak but quickly realized this wasn't the time to reconnect.
"Shannon! Shannon has been struck by the heavenly lightning! She needs help now!"
Benjamin had already sensed the lingering energy of the Divine Power on Shannon, his countenance icy. Then, ignoring everybody else, he swiftly scooped her up with his arms and darted toward the house where he was staying.
On the other side, Benjamin carried Shannon back to the room, having carefully assessed her injuries along the way. He found that her wounds weren't too severe.
Her protective emerald pendant had blocked half of the lightning strike, and as for the remaining half… Due to her awakened supernatural power, she had absorbed some of it.
At that point, her condition was less about physical injury and more about the exhaustion caused by the rapid consumption of her supernatural power after awakening.
After confirming Shannon was fine, the Jensens and the others heaved in relief. It was also then Adam cast a glance at the person who had been keeping vigil by her side.
For once, he spoke with a lack of confidence, his voice deep and hoarse. "Are you… Celeste Harmon?"
Thalia's eyes welled up, and just as she was about to respond, she suddenly seemed to remember her current appearance. As if startled, she quickly raised her hands to cover her ears and swiftly turned away.
She thought, "This is definitely the worst possible scenario I could imagine for our reunion…"
