Cassidy didn't want to cause trouble for Heston.
She didn't know who he was, but she felt an instinctive closeness to him.
When Heston heard she'd left a letter, he decided everything should be fine. So, he reached out and took her hand.
Together, they turned and walked into the night.
…
The next day in Seastone, Thalia looked at the text she'd just received and immediately forwarded it to Shannon. "I've located the child you requested to search. She's at an orphanage in a neighboring city."
She looked at Shannon and asked, "Do you think the Unmelting Bone will search for her?"
"I'm not sure why, but this little girl seems special to Heston. Since he hasn't come looking for us, and there's no sign of his presence in Seastone, he must've likely gone searching for her," Shannon explained.
She added, "So, let's try our luck."
As they talked, they opened the door, only to see an adult man and a little girl standing outside.
…
In the living room, Macaron walked around sniffling here and there. It circled the space in awkwardness and soon returned to its corner in the bedroom.
Shannon sat on the couch looking at Heston, then at Cassidy sitting beside him. The familiar headache returned.
"I told you not to abduct children. It's illegal." Child abduction was a crime regardless of whether in their original world or the alternate world!
Heston replied with a serious tone, "I didn't abduct her. She followed me."
This was the first time Thalia met the Unmelting Bone. She said, "Even if it's not an abduction, this is still considered coercion."
She glanced at Shannon and got up. "I'll make a call to explain so the police don't come knocking later."
Shannon nodded. In the original world, she could rely on their connections with the Special Security Agency, but now she had to deal with local police inquiries in the alternate world.
Fortunately, Thalia had reliable connections in the alternate world. Soon, she hung up and walked over.
Cassidy lowered her head and felt a little down. Deciding not to listen to the adults, she picked up the phone Shannon had given her earlier and started scrolling through social media.
As she aimlessly scrolled through, Shannon hadn't paid much attention at first. That was until a familiar voice came from the phone.
"Everyone, the Fox Deity is finally eating something today! I'm offering boiled chicken breast and one egg yolk!
"Wait, the drumstick is mine, and the chicken breast is yours!"
Shannon's ears perked up, and she leaned in to look.
Sure enough, Eddie was in the video, and there was a snow-white fox beside him.
In the video, the fox bit a drumstick Eddie held onto. Upon noticing the camera, it turned its head to reveal a brief flash of panic and confusion in its eyes.
Then, it turned and darted off with the drumstick still in its mouth.
Shannon didn't know how to react. So, it seemed that they'd found Fennec, huh?
