Shannon had decided to stay temporarily in Antique Village.
Lexie and the others naturally had no objections, as their goal for this trip was to help Shannon investigate the alternate world; Brooklynn was just incidental.
Of course, Benjamin was fine with it.
Shannon stated, "Since we'll be staying here for some time, I'll tell Mr. Boyle to redo our sleeping arrangements. Every villager here is a spiritual being, and you'll be fine staying in your own room."
The arrangement last night was simply out of their control. Now that they had to spend a few more days in the village, she couldn't possibly let Benjamin squeeze into the same bed as her. That would be unfair to him.
Shannon assumed she was being thoughtful, and despite Benjamin thinking it was a fair arrangement, he couldn't help but feel… down.
Soon, the news of their temporary stay spread across the village, amusing the inhabitants.
"It's been so long since we had any newcomers. I've gotten so sick looking at the same faces every day."
"But they're not artifacts."
"Why not? Isn't there a zombie? If a dug-up corpse from a thousand years ago can be considered an artifact, why can't it be the same for a zombie?"
"You're not wrong. I heard there's even a half-demon fox. This is exciting because a pet is just what we need in this village!"
"Not just a fox, but also a tortoise."
"Uh, you can take the tortoise."
The villagers chatted excitedly, discussing what gifts to bring for the new arrivals as a token of welcome. However, Harlan couldn't take it anymore.
"They're only staying for a few more days, not becoming residents here. They'll be gone once they're done with their mission." Harlan seemed disappointed.
"Is the fox leaving too?"
"What about the zombie? I thought he complements our village quite well."
After realizing that the village's artifacts were all in a half-spirit state, Shannon understood the difficulty they faced in maintaining their spiritual energy.
Since they were going to live in the village, they would need to pay some "rent" in return.
This idea was originally proposed by Benjamin, but Shannon was concerned that it would lead to the villagers frequently gathering around him. Not only would that make him uncomfortable, but the effect would also be limited.
Instead, she suggested that she could set up a spirit-gathering array, drawing the spiritual energy from the surrounding forests and mountains and allowing all the villagers to absorb it collectively.
When the villagers saw the thoughts the couple had put into that matter, they were once again deeply moved. Even Harlan couldn't stop praising how lucky they were to have met such good people.
In order to show their gratitude, the villagers secretly decided to prepare a "great gift" for the two of them.
Unaware of their "scheme", Shannon was currently sketching the pattern of the Emeralda Stone.
The emerald was etched with intricate patterns. Among them, swirling patterns predominated, but upon closer inspection, the strokes of the swirls revealed a series of characters, as if they were part of a hidden script.
