After learning about Montaro's backstory from Brody, Shannon's group had a better understanding of the villagers' respect and protectiveness over him. That said, they couldn't just leave.
As such, they made up an excuse that they were looking for someone in the village. With the help of Brody, they borrowed a house from one of the families in the village and settled in.
After seeing him off, the group locked eyes with each other. Lexie asked, "Shannon, what do you think?"
Shannon replied, "He could tell Fennec's true form at first glance and also sensed the earthquake in advance. He should be a real village guardian."
Fennec became curious. "If the village guardian is real, is there anything fake around here?"
Lexie quickly chimed in. "I know! That Marigold lady is a fake!"
Although she was eccentric and mystical, no trace of spiritual energy surrounded her. Most likely, she was a charlatan, trying to deceive others.
Enlightenment spread across Fennec's face. "I see; she's a con woman. I thought I couldn't feel the spiritual energy because it was too weak."
After all, she was a half-demon, with weaker supernatural power. Usually, whenever a demon hid its power, she would always fail to detect it. Frankly, she had grown accustomed to it.
Shannon stated, "Some of the village shamans truly possess real skills, but there are also those who use it merely as a means of making a living. As long as they aren't using their charms or potions to extort money or harm people's lives, the Special Security Agency wouldn't interfere."
After all, some of these shamans' existence was a spiritual reliance on others. Besides, Shannon hadn't seen any karmic debts surrounding Marigold.
Shannon's response was to tuck it back into the mystic chest. "Since that person said Montaro could lead us, there must be some other ways. I think we should just find him and ask him about it later.
"If he could at least give a rough location, he wouldn't necessarily have to leave the village."
"We don't have to wait," Brooklynn said, pointing outside. "I think he's followed me here. He's right outside."
At the sound of the words, everyone turned in unison, only to see a large figure standing at the door of the courtyard. The person was craning his neck, eagerly staring at Brooklynn, grinning from ear to ear.
"Stone… Stone…"
